programming question from a beginner
Is it possible to split an application across several machines? How is
it done?
I have heard many reasons for why people would do this but I do not
have a solid answer that makes sense. so my final question would be
what are the benefits and shortfalls to do this?

Client has to wait long for its answer after many queries served, although server is still fast
Dear all,
I have the following setup:
1. A server written in C++: It waits for a request on a given port
(using accept), reads whatever is sent (using read), computes an
answer string, sends it back (using write), then closes the connection
(using close).
2. A client written in PHP: It opens the connection (using fsockopen),
sends the request string (using fwrite), reads the data (using fgets),
then closes the connection (using fclose).
Queries come in at an average rate of about one query per second. The
server needs a few milliseconds to compute the answer string

A Trend Towards Lower Software Maintenance Budgets?
Software maintenance is an important part of the software development
activity, but it is also the less discussed. A recent poll seems to

Interesting article on SOA Reusability: Shrinking the Lag between Business and IT
There is an interesting article on java.net about SOA reusability,
Shrinking the Lag between Business and IT:
http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2007/07/24/soa-reusability-shrinking-lag-time.html
Blessings from business owners are important in all SOA
implementations. This article articulates the vision of reusability
with a different spin around the business users, the ultimate end
users of SOA.
This article nicely describes how business-process modeling tools and
SOA enables business analysts to directly reconfigure systems built on

The Relative Importance of Web Development
If you follow the evolution of software development on Internet, you
may have the impression that every new development is Web based and
that the main areas of concern are whether you should develop new
application with Ruby on Rail or if you should choose Flash rather
than Ajax for the interface. However, if you ask developers, you may
find that the Web is not as ubiquitous in their work as you may think.
Even if 66% of the participants develop the majority of their new
applications with a browser as the interface, there is still a large
portion of developers that are working today

Survey: More Offshoring than Outsourcing in Software Development?
Outsourcing is often closely related to offshoring in software
development, but you can outsource onshore and you can create offshore
subsidiaries. This seems to be the current trend for large occidental
organisation that want to profit for lower costs in countries like
India, but maintain a high control on the process. However, developers
in Europe or North America feel no differences if their Asian
"competitor" work for a subsidiary or for another organisation. A

How do i avoid packet segmentation?
Hi,
I'm writing a program that sends 1500 bytes of data at once, from the
client to the server. However, the packet is broken down into 3
different segments of 500 each before getting to the server. This is
detrimental to the program i'm writing as I need the server to receive
the entire 1500 bytes at once. How do I avoid this segmentation. Is it
a linux setting which I can change or is it a TCP setting? either way,
what can I do? I'm sending the packets using the C send() function.

TP MONITOR ARCHITECTURE BASICS
Hello
A querry regarding TP Monitor architecture.
If I want to use the TUXEDO TP MONITOR to perform transactions in my
application,
is it must that I should develop the application using TUXEDO APIs to

and other resources?
simply, can I develop application servers independent of TP Monitor
APIs, then how can I interface
it with TP monitor ?
Kindly help me to understand the TP Monitor architecture.
Thanks a lot.
