8.0v3 updates are now out

And they are here:

But *why* they released an updater that only goes from 8.0v2 is beyond
me -- where's the updater that takes you directly from 8.0v1?

Sheesh! ;-)

I agree that it would have been nice to have the updater go directly
from v1 to v3...but I'm glad they didn't do this. The v2 updater was a
full-sized download that took a long time to download and install. v3
is a very small download. I imagine they had just as many complaints
about download speed as they will about no direct v1-v3 upgrade.

Sorry for the double-post on this, but I hit send without adding this
additional thought:

If you have any hesitancies about upgrading to v3, get over them NOW!
Note that you should upgrade both FM Pro and FM Server (if you have it)
to v3. More than anything, v3 fixes some indexing/search issues that
remained in v2. And v3 also moves a lot of the processing load from the
client back to the server, which will help reduce network traffic and
increase processing speed.

Over time the annoyance will grow. There's a lot of v1 disks out there.
And everytime I do a reinstall I'll be back at v1. :/

Some vendors make both available, in cases like this.

I updated FM Pro and FM Server on our Windwos System. After the update,
the External Login was not working any more. I wish I had hesitated :-(

Christoph--

A couple of people I trust very much on the topic of FMP security (they
have written books and white papers on the subject) say they have tested
this extensively and found no problems. They recommend that you double
check all the server admin tool (SAT) settings and of course reboot the
FMS CPU.

If you still have problems after this, please let me know what sort of
problems you are having.

Howard

Thanks for looking into this. I'm glad to hear it's not a bug. I admit I
haven't yet been able to reboot the server CPU after the update. I'll
post any new developments.
