Compare FMP with Paradox and Access

  • Follow

O.k. no wars here !

My needs are not much...a few flat flies and some relationship files (no
more than three tables)
I'm using Paradox 8 now....I have never liked MS Access seems overly
complicated
and I have heard later verisions of Paradox are buggy....

I would like nicer looking reports than I can get in Paradox 8.
I have never used FM but I have heard good things about it.
BTW, OS is Windows XP

Thanks

Ease of use is FM's strong suit.

FM's reporting is reasonably capable. There is something of a learning
curve for mastering the combination of sort order, found set, summary
fields and sub-summary layout parts to get the values you want as you do
more advanced reports. But there are few reports I haven't been able to
do in FM.

There are limitations though, and if you want graphing or something
really exotic you'll want to export data and deal with it in an
appropriate tool.. be it crystal reports or excel or whatever.

If you've only got 3 tables, and you're self describing as someone whose
"needs are not much" I'd predict that your report requirements will be
more than covered by FM.

I D/L demo but Setup file won't run...
not an XP or 2000 machine on the net so maybe
FMP7 doesn't run on ME

correct,

FM7 does need xp, but fm6 does run on ME and should be fairly cheap on e-bay
(or an other second-hand site)

You specifically said "BTW OS is XP" in your original post. Try it on
that machine :)
