export to text format including field types

  • Follow

I use FilemakerPro 6.0.
I want to export the database to a text format for postprocessing with
perl.
The field-types should be preserved.

Which export formats could be used?
Where do I find Information about the structure of the export formats.

I already tried DIF, MERGE and SYLK.
With MERGE the field-types are not preserved.
The other two seem to include more information, but I was not able to
"decode" it.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You are going to need to use the Design Functions, or use one of the
Utilities available at fmfiles.com (see url), to your information you want I
think.

There are Functions that you can use in Define Fields, Calculation. Check
out the pull down list on the right hand side.

I don't have FileMaker installed on this machine, so I'm sorry to be so
brief. Try opening the Online Help and typing Design Function in the Index
window, or check out the Manual for design functions.

BTW, the Utilities use these in some of the reports that the produce.
