File cannot be opened by FMS 5.5 for hosting

  • Follow

I have noticed in the application event log that Filemaker server 5.5
has a problem to open a file for hosting.
The server is hosting an application that has one main file that is
shown for the user. The other 8 files are accessed by the server when
needed and cannot be accessed indivually or manually by a user.

As far as I can track it, and that is from the start that we used FMS,
the error exists, but it has been noticed only now. We have only
recently switched to FMS.

The error I see is :
Source FileMaker Server
Type Error
EventID 91
Description : File "filename.fp5" could not be opened : database may
be damaged; try opening in Filemaker Pro

Now when we open this file now locally with Filemaker Pro 6 client,
all seems ok.

We have checked that this file is "multiuser" and it is.

What could be wrong that causes the file to appear damaged by
FMServer, and ok voor FMPro Client ?

Can anyone recognize this and advice what to check or try ?

Does someone know what the problem might be, please ?

Use the Recover feature in FM Pro. (It's in the File menu).

If that doesn't work, try "Save a Clone" and import the records from the
problematic file.

Sometimes you get this if you've saved a clone and have not opened it
FIRST in FMPro before trying to host it in FM Server. Very frustrating
time I had before discovering this. :/

Thank you Kevin and Lynn. I will forward this information to the user
of this application, so that we can try this when he is back.
