FM Server: Turn Off From Client?

  • Follow

OS: Win2000
App: Filemaker Server 5.5

Is it possible to place to a desktop shortcut for Filemaker Server Console
on a client computer? I want to be able to turn off the server from my desk
instead of doing it at the server 3 offices away.

TIA!

I don't believe the Server Console can be moved to a client machine in
5.5 or 6. But in the server directory, you will find a file called
Fmpsadm.fmx. Copy that onto a client machine (close FileMaker first),
into the application's "system" folder.

Now, when you go into Open Remote (or was it still Open Hosts in 5.5?),
double-click on the server name. You will get a window that will show
you what's going on with the server, and you may also open and close
served files from here.

Brent,

You may find it helpful to have full remote control of everything on
the server in addition to the Filemaker Server console.

You can do a free download of the remote control software from
http://www.realvnc.com/download.html or
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ultravnc/UltraVNC-100-RC11d--Setup.exe?download.

If you have administrators right's then use SERVICE and conect to the FM
server.
There you can start or stop the server....

But you must have the database in the same folder that FM-server or one
level down.

You can't use bases from an other folder or other HD or from a cluster.

If you use that you can stop the server but not start it.
Then you have to use some off the .BAT (.CMD) tools fron NT resource kit to
start an CMD file from remote.
The .CMD (or .bat) start's the FM server and load the base's.
If you install terminal server on the 2000 server then you can use an window
to stop and start FM server.
Get an licens from MS first... ;-)
