FMP Advanced - Instant Web Publishing
AAHHH! Help please...
I am having trouble with INSTANT WEB PUBLISHING. I read in the
applications help that databases published are only available to those
on the same IP address. Did I read this wrong, or is it not possible
for me to make a database available and have someone on the other side
of the globe access it?
If this is possible, then I can't get people outside my house to see
it. I gave them my IP as described in the IWP set-up dilog box.
Also, when I do see the page - is there a way to get ride of the status
area by default?
Thanks,
FMP Junkie

I have recently gone through the same challenges and worked it out.
Yes - anyone with the URL in the IWP set-up dialog box should be able
to access your database.
The things that prevent this that you likely need to fix are:
1. The port that the outside user trys to come in on - see the FMP
documentation about using port 591 for IWP and include that at the end
of the URL
2. If you have a firewall on your system, it probably needs to be set
to off to enable an outsider to get in
3. If you have a local network, it needs to be set up via port mapping
to pass the outside user connection through to your host. There are two
threads on Apple support discussions
- the thread at
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1125579
deals with the issue.
I have not yet tried the port mapping solution covered in
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607425򔓁
I just eliminated the local router by cabling the cable modem directly
to my mac to take the port mapping issue out of the way and it worked.
Not a permanent solution but lets you isolate what needs to be done.
Hope this helps - it took a few hours to work out.

Is it possible to set up an FM8 IWP application using a .mac account?
This would get around firewall and security concerns.
