we are having a real knightmare about getting fonts on the screen that print
out the same
We are all on fm 6 using win xp with a lexmark optra t614 with newest pcl
drivers from their website
When we print large amounts of text, on screen there may be two or three
pages of text in times new roman font 12. it prints the text smaller and
squeezes it onto one or two pages and print a blank page at the end
if the text spans over six or seven pages on screen it will print the first
page blank and then start prining from the second page.
i am going mad trying to sort this. i have tried changing the line width on
the layout and even the type of font. i have tried postscript drivers,
different printers. and even to pdf but all of them give the same result.
i solved the part where over six pages the first page prints blank by
setting all the printers to 300dpi but now when we print other parts of the
database with any graphics on they look terrible.
does any one know of any font software or any fix at all to this problem
Cheers

Have you tried setting "fixed page margins" (Layouts -> Layout Setup)?
If not, try setting it to something like 0.5 inches (all margins).

That doesn't make any difference either. I'm having the same problems here
on the same platform using filemaker to print - in fact nothing prints out
consistently between any different printer - if we use PDF writer or Visage
Soft's expertPDF the PDF results are different (blank pages at the end of
multiple page printouts) if we use a different printer we get lines missing
or text pulling up differently, etc, etc.
I fail to see how far wrong printing can go when there are options available
such as page size in mm - how can the print outs _still_ be different - this
is such a frustrating problem and one that we spend the vast majority of our
time trying to fix which unlike using the rest of filemaker is extremely
unproductive.
Filemaker really need to sort this out or if it turns out that Filemaker is
not to blame and it is the fault of printers or their drivers or even the
OS, then Filemaker should document fully how to fix these problems. The main
problem here is which problem is this? A Filemaker / Printer / Printer
Driver / OS issue? I'm sure if those of you out there that use Filemaker on
a regular basis have not come up against this problem yet, you probably will
do after a lot more usage. We need help with this now!
