how to save or print a filemaker Pro 6.0 job as .pdf

  • Follow

Hi,

Can someone help me? I have just started working with Filemaker Pro
6.0. What I want to do is save a job (I sorted a database) as a .pdf
(acrobat) file.

I have been trying to read up and I am unclear at best on what to do.
If you know how, could you explain it to me in very simple terms,
being very exact (I may not understand all of the terms).

I don't know if I can save it or just print it as a .pdf. I want to
be able to do both.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thanks,

Park

FileMaker itself has no PDF ability at all, so you can't save / print
to a PDF.

If you're using MacOS X, then you can use FileMaker's normal Print
function to "print" to a PDF file. This is thanks to the OS, and works
from any application - although the PDF created may not be the most
efficient.

If you've got Adobe Acrobat, then you can use it's PDF printer driver
or use any Postscript printer driver and print to a Postscript File,
which you can then process through Acrobat Distiller to create a PDF.
Distiller also comes with some other Adobe software (eg. PageMaker).

There are also other shareware/freeware "printer drivers" that will
allow you to print to a PDF. One for the Mac is PrintToPDF, which you
should be able to find at http://www.versiontracker.com - there's
probably something similar for Windows (you might even find it at the
same website in the Windows section). Again, these may not be the most
efficient PDFs, but they do work.

To create a PDF document, you simply print your page, and when prompted to
choose a printer, choose the PDF printer.

To do this, you must have a PDF writer installed. A common one is the Adobe
Acrobat software. Once you've installed it, you'll see a new printer on
your system, probably named something Adobe Distiller. When you choose that
printer and click "Print", you'll be prompted to specify a name for the new
PDF file. Then, the PDF is created using the file name you specified.
Thats it.
