Instant web publishing and images in fields

  • Follow

A GIF or JPEG in a layout appears in a web browser perfectly well when a
database is published. But if the same image is in a field, it isn't -
the browser knows that there hsould be an image there, but can't find
anything to display.

Any ideas why?

Thanks,

Daniele

Because Instant Web Publishing is fundamentally borked and
brain dead.

http://heifer.ucc.usyd.edu.au/FMPro?-db=cdf%5ffaq.fp5&-format=%2fcdf%5ffaq%2ffaq%5fdetails.html&NavFullCode=3h103&-find

You get what you get, and there's not a lot you can do to make
it work any differently.

That's great, thanks. I didn't find any of that FAQ while Googling last
night.

I'm still confused about FMP publishes to the web. As far as I can work
out, FMP simply handles HTTP requests and spews out responses (this is
FileMaker Pro 6, not the Server or Unlimited versions I'm talking about)
and there aren't any editable files anywhere to customise its output.

I've created a file in the FileMaker Pro Web folder called index.html
with a hyperlink:

at=formvwcss.htm&-mode=browse&-findall>

which goes to the database, but that's all the customisation I've been
able to manage.

I do need to get these images showing up - will one of the other
Filemaker products make this possible?

Thanks,

Daniele

Is your image linked or embedded in the Filemaker database? If it's embedded
it should show. But it's really not a good way to store the images. If the
files are linked I think the need to be in the /web directory or
subdirectory of /web (for example /web/images). But even then, I don't think
they will show in IWP.

If you are on Windows, download Chp3_Trial30.exe from
http://em705.bu.edu/610/resources/ It's an old trial version of Claris Home
page which is now discontinued. It has an assistant to guide you into making
a fully customizable web sites from Filemaker databases. It will walk you
through the process. To go even further you can dissect the pages it make to
learn how to make you own. I have learned more from the Home Page than I
thought possible. It's too bad Filemaker gave up on it. It would be an
awesome throw-in on the Filemaker CD.
