I have a zip code filed that when you enter a zip code it does a lookup in a
zip code table and finds the city and state. During manual entry, this works
fine. It does not work when I import a file into the database. Is there a
was to have it do the lookup? I have the perform auto-entry box checked
during the import.
Thanks in advance.

I think you can't do that during the import, but you may add to your import
script a loop on all found records and do the lookup in it.

After you have gone through nearly all the steps to perform a lookup, and arrange
the fields where you want them and press the "import" button, there is one last
dialogue that pops up which contains a checkbox for something like "Perform auto
enter functions while importing"
That box must be checked in order for serial numbers and lookups etc to be performed.

That's interesting : I never knew what to do with that 'dialog' screen just
before the imports actually occurs.
Does someone may elaborate on all those functions that seem to be there and
I never saw described correctly ?
It may help some people, and certainly it would for me (I didn't find that
in the built-in 'Help' function, but maybe I didn't look correctly).
Thanks.

Well, I thought that was the answer too, but I had already tried that and it
doesn't work.
In case it comes up, FMv8.

Have you tried selecting your imported zip-code field and using the menu item to
redo lookups based on this field?
Records menu > Relookup Field Contents.
If that isn't working, then perhaps the index field is invalid for some reason in
the imported records. Maybe there are spaces at the end of the imported records or
some other character that is messing up the relation?
Have you tried typing over one of the imported records with the same thing to see
if you get a useful result?

Kent,
That didn't work either! Anyone have any other suggestions?
