Merge Field - blank spaces?

  • Follow

I have created the following Merge Field to use in an invoice layout:

<<Contact>>
<<Company>>
<<Address One>>
<<Address Two>>
<<City>>, <<State/Province>>
<<ZIP/Postal Code>> <<Country>>

Basically, it seems to work ok . . . *except* thast if the <<Address
Two>> field is empty, FMP leaves a blank line there rather than sliding
the next line up to close the gap.

If I leave the <<Company>> field empty, the rest of the lines slide up
ok! This is driving me nuts - what am I overlooking?

Is this all in one text object? Are you SURE the Address Two field is
completely empty (doesn't have a space or CR in it)?

Make sure that the Address Two field is line up right underneath the
Adress One field. Sometimes a one pixel shift can screw up the sliding.

Ah! It turned out to be something similar: an extra carriage return in
the Address One field! So it was sliding fine all along. Duh.

I need to remember to seek the simplest possible fix when I'm
troubleshooting. I've been monkeying around with this for days!

thanks to both repliers for the pointers.
