Problem Performing Import with Auto-Enter Options

  • Follow

I'm trying to import some records from an Excel spreadsheet to an
existing database that contains a autonumber, unique number field that
serves as a record ID. When I perform the import, I am choosing to
"add new records" and then am selecting the "Perform auto-enter options
while importing" option. The records import in okay as new records,
BUT the record ID field begins autonumbering from 1, rather than from
the next serial number as defined for the field (in this case, it
should have started with 283). Therefore, I end up with duplicate
record IDs.

Does anyone have any idea of what I'm doing wrong? I'm using FMP 6.5.

Thanks,
DPM

It is possible to mess up the serial numbers with a records/replace
command. Before you import, go to field definition and check the
auto-enter options (next serial no?). Checking the box at the bottom
(don't allow users to change the field) might be a good idea.
