protect files from copying

Hello. Is there a way to protect FM files from being copied or burned
to a CD?...
how do companies protect their Filemaker databases so employees cannot
take them out of the company?
Our email address: <estudi@rosazul.com>

They put them on a filemaker server and don't allow file access to the
server. Then they turn off export privileges in each database so the
clients can not export the data. You can also turn off copying of the
data so they can't copy the data record-by-record.

But even then, it's not foolproof. If you give employees access to the
data, then they have access to the data. You can only make it harder for
them to get it in quantity.

You can also do something like an opening script that checks the drive
/ computer name and quits if it's "wrong" ... but hard-coding that sort
of stuff into a database is annoying when you later need to move it for
a legitmate reason (eg. upgrading the computer).

There is nothing that I know of, but copying the database to a CD or other
media is really not your problem. Your problem is that once they copy it to
CD they can then install it on another system.

If you go to the plugin section at Filemaker.com you will find some plugins
that takes care of this. One that I know of is called Code-X. Check it
out.
