Using more than one printer?

  • Follow

Filemaker always uses the default printer. Is there a workaround so
that a different printer can be used in a particular script? The task I
am attempting is to have the option of being able to use a normal
printer (A4) and a label printer.

Your question suggests that you use a pre-7 version. Next time please state
your version and you platform.

Pre-7 filemaker remembers the settings you made. Just before you print
command enter the line Print Setup. disable both options (restore setup
options OFF and perform without Dialog OFF0
then thje print coimmand Also turn of the option. Now perform your script
once, setting the printer as you need. Immediately go back to you scripts
and turn those three options ON. If I remember correctly that should do the
job. It is some time that I have done this, but you are surely on the right
track with these steps.

Fm 7 and 8 are fully configurable on scripting level. So you should have
absolutely no trouble using one of them.

New PrintSetup plugin allows Filemaker version 7 and above to choose
from various printers local and networked, source tray, orientation,
paper size, current record or records being browsed.
Add local or networked printers to your solution without changing your
print setup or properties in your scripts ! Create Print Jobs and
more..

There are others :
- 'FM Select Printer' at www.fmplugin.net or www.youseful.com

Hi

FM Select Printer version 3.0 (in BETA) will have the following

1) Set properties like orientation and etc
2) Get a List of Printers
3) Get list of papersizes for any printer
4) Switch Printers for fm 5-8 reliably and also work for runtimes

We just will not inlcude PDF out of the box.

Thanks for all the answers. Yes, I am using pre FM7 on Windows
platform. (FM6).

After looking at all the options I have found three different plug-ins
that will do this. I downloaded demos of each one and they all work
quite well. For anyone else trying to solve the same problem I have
listed them here...

- ProPrint - http://www.afeina.com
- Change Printer - https://www.productive.cc
- http://www.youseful.net

In the end I have gone with ProPrint simply because it's the cheapest
to buy ($24) and they all do the job.

Thanks again.
