DB2 V10 and z800
The DB2 v10 announcement letter has a conflicting statement '.DB2 10 for
z/OS operates on z10T, z9T, z990, z890, or higher, processors supported by
z/OS V1.10, or later. The first part of the statement says z800 and z900
will not run DB2 V10. The second part states any processors supported by
z/OS v1.10 or later. Now z/OS 1.10, 1.11 and 1.12 will all run on z800 and
z900.
There was an early announcement of z/OS v1.10 (I think - could have been
1.11 or 1.12) that excluded z800 and z900 but this was quickly corrected
after it came out.
I'm a little confused.. will DB2 V10 not run on z80

strange query behaviour
Hi,
I am experiencing problems running a query on a warehouse-server.
DB2 8.1 FP 12 on AIX 64 bit
(Upgrade to 9x cannot be done in the near future).
Situation:
One complex query with 2 different arguments:
1. where year='2008' (or 2006, 2007..)
- runs fine everywhere
2. where year='2009'
- runs locally on the DB2-Server and returns the expected results.
- hangs on remote Windows-Client (32bit)
"Hangs" means: The query never finishes. Same behaviour with command
editor and commandline-client (so it can´t be a jdbc-issue).
Application snapshot shows that the quer

Can anyone please brief on what those non-agent threads may be?I

How to verify data move from big endian to little endian architecture?
We are in the process of migrating data from db2 9.5 from Solaris
(SPARC) to Linux (x64). A big to little endian conversion has to take
place because of the architectural differences between to two
platforms. What steps can I run to verify that the data in the source

trust the export/import, but to just to be safe, how can I compare the
data to make sure it was migrated correctly?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Limiting file system caching on RH Linux version 5
For DB2 Version 9.5, does setting swappiness= 0 (/proc/sys/vm/swappiness) on

way to limit on the percent of memory that can be used for Linux file system

Please do not explain to me how DB2 tablespace file system caching (or no

Linux OS configurations for a DB2 data server where almost all tablespaces
are defined with no file system caching (except those that contain LOB's).

Get tablespace autoresize config setting in DB2 V8 via table functions?
Hi,
I'm writing scripts to monitor our databases. They should be somewhat
universal, i.e. run on on DB2 versions 8+ (yes, we still have some V8
databases).
Is there a way to get the autoresize flag of a tablespace using a
table function (or any other SQL statement)?
Of course, I could parse GET SNAPSHOT FOR TABLESPACES or db2pd, but I
want to implement everything in SQL.
Thanks in advance,
Willem

I am using the db2 9.7 client software to install visual studio add-
in.
The error message: The operation could not be completed. The
requested operation requires elevation.
Environment:
OS: Windows 7
DB2 : DB2 9.7 client
VS: 2008
Maybe to many new components that are not playing well together?

Adding DB2 Connect license file to DB2 Express-C 9.7
Can i add the DB2 Connect Personal Edition V9.7 license file (from a
commercially licensed copy) to a directory in my DB2 Express-C V9.7
installation to obtain connection to z/OS without actually installing DB2
Connect Personal Edition? I believe the license is a jar file.

IBM's market share in databases on unix
And I thought professional whiners in cdi claim that Oracle is
more than IBM + Microsoft combined after IBM took over Informix.
Taken from today's WSJ article
Larry Ellison, chief executive of software giant Oracle Corp., has recently
suggested his company's acquisition of Sun Microsystemsa major player in Unix
serverswill spell trouble for IBM. But IBM executives say the Power7
announcement
only ensures their market-share lead in the Unix market; IDC, a research firm,
says IBM's share of the market for Unix systems has swelled to 39% today from
25%
in 2003.

Installing IBM Data Studio V2.2 and Websphere Community edition on windoze 7
Hi all,
I'm trying to install the above 2 packages on windoze 7 (64 bit)
VmWare image and for both of them I get an error message saying that
the installer is unable to find an appropriate Virtual machine. I
tried SUN JDK 1.6patch level 17 and the IBM JDK that comes with
webspehere to no avail.
running java --fullversion from the command line shows what appears to
be a valid version of java installed.
However, I've just installed both packages on a VmWare Vista 64 bit
image with no problem

Join pushdown to UNION ALL view
Hello, I'm trying to do a left outer join between simple table to a
UNION ALL view of two base tables and I'm getting horrible performance
due to a tablescan of the base tables of the view even though the join
columns have indexes and great cardinality.
My table config and sql are as follows:
TableA
id int,
idb int (foreign key from TableB)
TableB/TableB2 and ViewB = select * from TableB UNION ALL
TableB2
id int
select * from TableA as A left outer join ViewB as VB on VB.id=A.idb
where A.id>? and A.id<?
If I substitute one of the base tables (TableB or TableB2)

Documentation on db2pd
I'm looking for documentation on db2pd that is complete to some
extend. At the moment I'm doing a lot of guesswork, but there must be
many more hidden gems than I discovered so far.
As an example, I can guess what "Scans", "Reads", "Inserts" and
"Updates" are in the TCB Table Stats. But I have no clue about "UDI"
or "NoChgUpdts"...

Deadlocks with only one side reported
I'm working on some deadlock analysis, and when I parse the output of
the deadlock event monitor, I discover that for over half of my 26
deadlocks in an hour, the deadlock event monitor has only reported on
one of the two applications involved in the deadlock. I've seen db2
report properly on 3 or 4 way deadlocks, so I don't think this is
that. And the event monitor clearly lists that there is another
application involved - but only shows details on one of them.
Yes, I flushed the event monitor before generating the output.
I'm db2 8.2 FixPack 18 on Linux (old, I know).
Can anyone
