HELP - Need to connect to DB2 database on AIX from NT server. Also AS/400 from NT Server

HELP - Need to connect to DB2 database on AIX from NT server. Also
AS/400 from NT Server

-- I am experienced in ORACLE and a novice at DB2. What tools would
be the equivalent of Net*8 or SQLNET in ORACLE that would allow me to
connect to a database on a remote box (either AIX or AS/400)? I have
read that DB2 Connect appears to be the ticket for the Db2 server if
it is on AS/400 or OS/390. What if it is on AIX? Does the same tool
apply?

All help is appreciated.

hi,
To connect to DB2 db on AIX from windows you will just be needing the
db2 client and then you have to catalog the db.

To connect to DB2 on AIX, you just need the DB2 Runtime client, which
is free.

To connect to DB2 on AS/400, you either need DB2 Connect Personal
Edition or DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition, which are licensed products.
I recommend you read the following article for info about these two
products in order to make the appropriate decision:

Good luck,

OK. Thanks for the help. We have downloaded the client software and
were able to get the connection to work on the same AIX box as our
test database. We are now installing the client on an NT Server box
and trying to connect to the DB on the AIX box on the LAN. Assuming
we need no extra pieces for this, we will hopefully have this working
today.

The next and more interesting step is the AS400. This will be the
production DB, and we will need our program to attach to the DB2
instance on this platform. Our application will supposedly need to
run on an NT Server platform. I understand from here that I will need
the DB2 Connect piece for this to work. This piece would reside on
the NT Server correct?

Can I use DB2 Connect in my test environment here between the NT
Server and the AIX box? Or is it strictly for connecting to the AS400
and OS390 environments?

Thank you in advance.

Scott

I think DB2 Connect includes the normal DB2 client, so from your server
with DB2 connect you should also be able to connect to the AIX server.
