Is this on RedHat by chance? If so find the option to RPM which allows you
to relocate the install. That's if you want to relocate...

Also, check out the settings for $LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Mine is

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/informix/lib:/usr/informix/lib/esql

Make sure $LD_LIBRARY_PATH, $INFORMIXDIR, $INFORMIXSERVER and $ONCONFIG are
exported. Make sure they have proper values. If in doubt, post your current
values.

RE: Change database mode online using onmode in Informix #2
onmode -m takes the database server from quiescent or single-user mode to online mode. To bring the server from off-line to on-line, you should just use the oninit command. You could use the oninit -s to initialise shared memory and bring the server to single-user mode and then use onmode -m to bring it to multi-user mode. By the way, you should not use onmode -ky to shut down the server unless you are in quiescent mode. This will not perform a checkpoint and can, in some situations, lead to data loss or corruption. I recommend shutting down with onmode -yuk. This brings the database server to quiescent mode without waiting for users to finish their sessions. Their current transactions are rolled back, and their sessions are terminated. A checkpoint is completed and then database server goes to offline mode and database server shared memory is removed. The order of parameters is unimportant, but I use "onmode -yuk" because of the mnemonic value, at least for English speakers; say it out loud with me: "onmode -yuk (yuck) can avoid a big mess." I know its silly, but it sticks in the head. Informix User Forum 2006 - 2 day Informix Technical Conference for Users by Informix Users
A two-day Informix User Group Technical Conference - Friday and Saturday, December 8-9, 2006 The Washington Area Informix User Group (WAIUG) based in Washington, DC, and the Southeast Informix Users Group (SEIUG), based in Atlanta, GA, are teaming up once again to present Informix User Forum 2006. This will be the premiere Informix regional user group technical conference in the world. This is a user conference planned and run by Informix users for Informix users. I have been putting together the Washington Area Informix Users Group Forums since 1994 and last year's was the best event we have done to date. We had over 170 participants from 8 countries and 30 states in the US. There were 14 sponsors with products for the Informix user community. There were 32 technical presentations, by speakers who are Informix developers from IBM and DBA users from around the world. The message was very clear from IBM that Informix is a critical product and will continue to have a great future. The message from the users attending was also very clear, no other product does the job of Informix and we are loyal to what works. To view the results and presentations for last year's forum visit: http://www.iiug.org/waiug/present/Forum2005/Forum2005.html This years Forum looks to be even better then last year. Re: 6.5 PP2 to 6.5 PP3 #2
The upgrade from 6.5 PP2 to 6.5 PP3 apparently is not the culprit. I am sure I have fixed the problem. To begin with, there was a file in NET.SYS that I had not renamed. NS/3000 was obviously trying to do something with it and this was causing a problem requiring the OVERRIDE option. Once I had renamed the file I no longer needed the OVERRIDE option. Changed my netstart and netstop UDC's to reflect the changes and the fixes appear to work ok. No system hang so far .... How to copy a sun-database in one informix database to another informix database?
Hi, Sorry I am not an informix dba, and I was faced to copy a sub-database(sorry I don't know the clear name of such concept, as informix is like sql-server, which used multiple database) from one informix database system to another informix database. I know in oracle, we can use transportable tablespace, copy the datafile and transport the metadata, and do something else. How can I do it in informix then? Is there document which talk about the detail step? Thanks It would really help if you knew the versions of the Informix databases. Assuming Informix IDS 7.x or IDS 9.x If the two systems are binary compatible the fastest method is to use onunload/onload. If the systems are not binary compatible the easiest way is to use dbexport/dbimport. Everything is well documented in the manual "IBM Informix Migration Guide". This manual covers all Informix databases from Standard Engine and Online to IDS and XPS. One very important step to take is to verify that the subsystem tape contains all of the subsystems you currently have on your system. What can occur is that you purchased a new subsystem (100BT, Mirror/IX or others) after the subsystem tape was made or that you never added the purchased product to your support contract, so it was never included on the subsystem tape. There is little worse that doing an OS update and you find out that the 100Tt network(or other critical items) now does not work as the drivers were not on the tape you updated from.
