Web Server connecting to Informix Server #2

I am running an OLTP system with Informix 7.3 IDS on HPUX. We are considering writing some web interfaces to connect to the database. At first we mirrored the database tables to a web server so that no one was ever touching live data. This was relatively easy, just do a nightly export/import to the web server.

However, we now wish to create some "updating" web pages that will connect back to the server. On the web server I am using PHP/MySQL/Apache for web development with the Slackware Linux v 9.0 (Linux 2.4.7) distrobution.

I have tried multiple times to install the Linux Client-SDK hoping that somehow I could make a ODBC connection back to the Informix server. I have not yet been successful. I found a company that makes an Informix ODBC driver. I was unsucessful at getting it licensed for a 30-day trial. I tried compiling informix libraries into PHP, but ESQL doesn't seem to be compatible with gcc.

What is the best way to connect the Linux web server to the HPUX Informix server? Can anyone point me to documentation on how to do this? I would RTM if I could find one. Any tips, links, articles, etc would be appreciated.

RE: Web Server connecting to Informix Server #2
John Assuming you have IDS running on your web server you don't need anything else to communicate between the two engines apart from setting up the sqlhosts, /etc/services and .rhosts (/etc/hosts.equiv) files. You can then update any tables from either engine. (Both databases need to have the same logging state). To make names easier you might want to use synonyms or views. Re: Web Server connecting to Informix Server
One easy way is to use java to connect ( java driver for informix is free - ifxjdbc.jar ). If you want, you can get the relevant information here - http://www-3.ibm.com/software/data/informix/pubs/library/ Rgds Preetinder Wilson, John wrote: >I am running an OLTP system with Informix 7.3 IDS on HPUX. Error executing remote system command on an AIX Informix database from an NT Informix Server
Dear All, I realise there are many queries and answers already posted on a similar topic, but none seem to be able to get this working. I have two informix servers, one on Windows NT and one on AIX 4.3. Informix NT (7.31) Informix AIX (7.xx) I have a stored procedure on the unix box with a system command SYSTEM '/usr/bin/ksh /usr/bin/env > /tmp/mylog' I have set up the trust, so that I can connect to the AIX instance as informix from the NT server. I connect from the NT server to the AIX instance as informix and execute the procedure. I get the following error - 668 Command cannot be executed 127 No Primary Key I think that the 127 error number is from the shell execution. The /tmp/mylog file is created but with no values. Even if I replace it with an echo hello command I get an empty file. Having read one of Jonathan Leffler's responses, the SHELL environment variables needs to be set to the the Shell of the remote system. In my case that is 'set SHELL=/usr/bin/ksh' . I did this and it still didn't work. Am I missing further environment variables as I am executing the procedure from NT. Has anyone managed to do this? Many thanks in advance, Nick Have you tryed it on aix itself?? does that work?? try: SYSTEM "(/usr/bin/ksh /usr/bin/env 2>&1) > /tmp/nonexistingfile"; -- check what is in nonexistingfile or SYSTEM "(/usr/bin/ksh ...

How to connect from web server to Oracle server?
I am converting an applet from Sybase to Oracle and I haven't yet found information on how to accomplish the connect from the end-user's browser-running applet and the Oracle server. Our understanding is that the applet, running on end-users' PC's, can only connect to the web server which "served" the applet to the users' browsers. In our configuration, the Oracle server is a separate machine from the web server. Therefore it would appear that we will need to install some sort of middleware on the web server that will pass the Oracle traffic back and forth betw...

Informix 9.4 Arcserve 11 Unable to open connection to database server
We're running Informix 9.4 on Windows 2000 Server (sp4) with Arcserve 11 Backup Agent for Informix. These two pieces of software are installed on a "clean" machine (flattened and rebuilt). Just after the Informix 9.4 software and the Arcserve agent was installed, I ran a full backup from the Arcserve Manager server. It worked just fine. The DBA started tweaking the Informix server to get it ready to import the data from our production database and now it won't allow us to back it up any more. We get the Unable to open connection to database server 155 (0x9b) error. I have another clean system that I installed a similar configuration on and it has continued to allow us to use Arcserve to back up the database (no changes were made to the Informix server configuration though). A couple of other notes - the Arcserve manager resides on a separate server and all of the servers in my configuration are workgroup (not domain) servers. We've compared the configurations of the two servers mentioned above and re-entered configuration data until we're blue in the face. About the only thing we haven't done is uninstalled and/or re-installed any of the software. Anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this problem? Thanks, Rochelle ...

How to connect 2 databases on 2 different servers and retrieve information
Hi, I am in a dilemma , where I have 2 Oracle databases . Database 1 has data which I need to join with Database 2 and create reports. My approach for now and i don't know how I will be achieveing is: >From Database 1 retrieve the data I need for my reports into tables created in database 2 Once in database 2 join tables created from database 1 and database 2. generate reports from report 2. My concern is how to retrieve data from database 1 and create table in database 2?What kind of batch job or PL/SQL statements to use?I have no idea and I am new to Oracle. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks, SB Look up database links. You basically create a database link from 1 to 2, and the, while connected to 1, you can select t1.a, t2.b from t1, t2@database_2 where t1.id=t2.remote_id; Frank, Thanks for the information, what happens to username and password of t2? How do I go about with it?Do I hardcode it? Also, as the databases are containing millions of records, retrival between databases is it advised?Wouldn't there be a performance hit? Thanks SB Once the link is created the password is stored in the database. For large tables, I use a materialized view (snapshot) on the table(s) on the other database to keep the data syncronized. Then query the materialized view locally and I let oracle keep the view up to date. sb wrote: > Frank, > Thanks for the information, what happens to username and password of...
