Hi David,
=20
This usually means that the Unix account you are using has a file size
limit (seen via ulimit -a (your account's soft limit) or ulimit -aH
(your account's hard limit)) that is stopping you from creating that big
of a file. Your root user can adjust your account's file size limit via
the smitty utility program to allow you to create files greater than
2gb. My Ingres account, for instance, has the file(blocks) ulimit
parameter set to unlimited for this reason.
=20
Hope this helps!

Subject: [Info-ingres] File size (2 GB) limit when using AIX Version 5.1
with Ingres 2.6/0305

I am having a problem when I attempt to create a Transaction Log file
greater than 2 GB on our AIX 5.1 box, under Ingres 2.6/0305. I also
note that we've also had a problem moving (via ftp) any files over 2 GB
(like large .tar files of databases) onto this same box, so I guess its
related. Somewhere I think I recall hearing that this limit is
defaulted on AIX systems and the maximum size can be increased.

Does anyone know about this problem and what I could do to fix. I know
its more an AIX/Unix problem but its hampering my Ingres installation so
I thought I would pose the question here, in the hope that someone has
run across it too (and hopefully has a solution).

Thanks,
David.

[Info-ingres] File size limit on Ingres 2.6 + RH 8
Hi all: I am using Ingres 2.6 SP2 on a Red Hat 8 box. One of my user tables is 1.1 GB. size, in one .t00 file. I need to download this table in an ascii file using copydb -c. Doing this, I have the next error and the conexin with DB is broken: File size limit excedeed. The result incomplete ascii file is almost 2 GB. I know there is a file size limitation of 2 GB per file on Ingres, but I don't remember that this is applied to Ingres 2.6 over RH 8. Even if this limitation persists on Ingres 2.6 over Linux, simply I will have to create another data location and modify this table over those 2 locations. But this, will work for proper table operation (selects, update, etc). What Can I do for copydb -c? I did a simple test, copying one big file (2.3 GB) to RH file system, and there is no problem. I asume that no problem exists with RH FS supporting a file > 2 GB. Then it will be about Ingres 2.6. I will appreciate your comments and if the only way to solve this is upgrading my OS and Ingres version. Best Regards Oscar -- Lic. [Info-ingres] Ingres 2.0 upgrade to 2.6
Hello, I'm planning on making the above upgrade in the very near future and wanted to ask for gotchas/suggestions, before starting. I've got the 2.6 SP2 from CA and the Migration Guide, which indicates an upgradedb is the preferred method for this task. This will be running on Win2000. Aside from iidbdb and imadb, there's only one other db, mk, with 2775 tables. There are 325 views, a couple of procedures, and that's about it. Any thoughts you can offer will be greatly appreciated! We've got several MK users in our group who are talking of moving from Ingres to SQL, but since our move to new hardware last summer, that kind of talk around here has fallen by the wayside. [Info-ingres] Problem after upgrade to Ingres 2.6 #2
Pretty sure we've seen the same problem on R3; I believe the fix may have been to install the correct C compiler, fix up the path or LD_LIBRARY_PATH, or possibly something to do with the abflnk.opt file. Only the last possibility applies if you are doing an upgrade, preserving the II_SYSTEM onto the same machine & OS. Can you compile the ESQL/C program without make? Re: [Info-Ingres] Ingres 2.5 and cache memory #2
Hi Jim, We have so many problems with this 2.5....no point going there though. A migration project is just about to start which raises another question: what should it be 2.6, r3 or 2006? But this is a different topic I guess... Thanks for your reply, Nick -----Original Message----- From: info-ingres-bounces@kettleriverconsulting.com [mailto:info-ingres-bounces@kettleriverconsulting.com]On Behalf Of Jim Gramling Sent: 24 January 2007 11:16 To: info-ingres@kettleriverconsulting.com Subject: Re: [Info-Ingres] Ingres 2.5 and cache memory I know of no specific problems with larger cache sizes in 2.5; certainly not with the relatively small increase in group count you are proposing. I've run with 2.5 on other platforms and have never encountered anything to that effect. Assuming you have the o/s resources (particularly shared memory if your cache is shared), there's no reason you can't go substantially larger than you are considering. You probably know by now that 2.5 has a drop support date (I think something like end of 2007), so you should really be thinking about an upgrade to 2.6 at least, as soon as possible. Shouldn't be too traumatic to go from 2.5 to 2.6. Hi Gibson, Thanks for your quick reply. I remember the document but I can't find it anymore. Anyway, my main concern is this particular version of Ingres. Somehow (but I might be wrong) I remember some discussions about 2.5 having problems with large cache memory. [Info-ingres] RE: [ingres] [Info-ingres] Dates users were created in Ingres
Hi Paul, Thanks for the information! I do have a question: I checkpoint the iidbdb daily with the -d flag, so the journal files don't exist for me that far back (to cover all of 2004). If I weren't using the -d flag, how far back would Ingres track Journal/Checkpoint information? Indefinitely? I have a limited amount of space in my jnl file system, so I doubt I could keep a year's work of jnl files for that database even if I weren't using the -d flag. [Info-Ingres] Ingres 2.6 for Linux on Sparc/Ultra 5 ???
Hi, Checked my log of messages for the last year or so on this forum but couldn't fing anything definitive on this particular subject, so I thought I would just pose a quick question - dumb as it may turn out to be. I've worked with Ingres on Sun/Solaris and Ingres on Intel/Linux, but now I have an Sun Ultra 5 on which I have installed Aurora 1.0 Linux (which is based on Redhat 7.x ported for Sparc machines) and would like to know if there is an Ingres flavour for this combo. Should I just install Ingres as for Unix but which release would be better - the Solaris r...
