Can't Add "Mode" to Quick Access Toolbar in MS-Access 2007

I keep selecting and selecting, but it just doesn't show up. I also
have no button in the ribbon for this, or any ability to get into
other modes via the Office button. It's very frustrating; I had to
search online for a keyboard shortcut to be able to access Design Mode
at all.

I'm sure there is something I'm missing, but it doesn't make sense. I
can add and remove other buttons from the toolbar, why not Mode??

I still don't get it, but this appears to only be the case when I'm
using a database that was created in an earlier version of Access.
When I start a new 2007 database, I have full functionality.

Strawman: Is MS Access a "database"?
I would argue that it is not. JET is a desktop DB engine. Sybase is a database Oracle is a database DB2 is a database. VB 6 is a front-end development tool. PowerBuilder is a front-end development tool. MS Access is a front end devlopment tool. --------------------------------------- What's got me going on this is that I keep hearing statements like "What! you're running a mission-critical application out of an Access database?" Or the latest, to the effect of, "Well, sure the app has been working a-ok for the past five years, but would you want people reading in th...

SQL Server "Linked Server" to MS Access Database
I have a very frustrating problem. I have a situation that works fine on some computers, but not on others. I have SQL Server Express 2005 and Access 2003 loaded on 4 computers. I have set up a "Linked Server" in SQL Server linked to my Access database. I am running queries on t-SQL against the Access tables through the linked server. On all of the computers, I can do select queries and they all work great but what I need to do is run Update, Insert, Delete queries as well. On a couple of the computers, it works fine, locally and across the LAN, and a VPN as far as that goes. B...

Access 2007 Say it ain't so ... No "Expression Builder" in modules?
Hi, Just getting my feet wet with Access 2007 (Trial version) this weekend. I downloaded the Contacts Database, and noticed the "Map it" button, and drilled down to the code module ... etc. Thinking "Hey, that's kinda cool ... I could use that in an existing app" .... I discovered (I think) a couple of things that disappointed me. 1.) There seems to be no way to simply "Import" a code module from one app to another. You have to export it as a .BAS file, and then import that? Pffft! I just copied the text and pasted it into a new module. Even that seemed cumbersome, though. I guess it's just learning how to navigate in a new interface. 2.) So OK ... Now I have the "Open Map" function, and want to insert my field names into the function's criteria. In Access97 ... you could call an "Expression Builder" and could use it to supply correct control references. It was handy ... if you couldn't recall the control's exact name. (Switching back to design view? Don't get me started with what a PITA that is! LOL) OK ... I know... I can (and did) use "Me." and scrolled through the control and properties list. It was all that difficult in this case. But what about those times when you want to build a fairly complex expression like "Trim(Mid([Customer],(InStr(1,[Customer],',',1)+1)))" So that's my beef. The Expression Builder still exists when building queries .... WHY...

Error Message: "Microsoft Access Can't Open the Mail Session"
I am getting the following error when I am trying to send a report as an email attachment "Microsoft Access Can't Open the Mail Session" On the knowledge base on the MS site it says that this will happen if you have installed Access 97 after installing MS Office 2000. However I haven't installed Access 97 on this machine. I am not using code for this, I am using the Mail as Attachment option from the file menu. Can anyone help me with this. TIA Stephen, Try opening the mail program before clicking on the "Mail as Attachment". I seem to remember this error having something to do with what is your default mail program. If you have Outlook listed as your default mail program you may need to change it to Outlook Express. Regards. Possible to keep MS Access interface and migrate the MS Access to MS SQL Server?
Hello all Would it be possible to migrate the MS Access 2000 to MS SQL Server 2000? My application is using MS Access 2000 as database and as user interface such as forms. Now, I want to migrate the backend database from MS Access 2000 to MS SQL Server 2000. However, I want to keep the MS Access 2000 interface. Would it be possible? If I migrate the MS Access to SQL Server, would the queries, back-end VBA, macro, tables and forms be affected? Do I need to change the MS Access data type to SQL server supported data type? Which tool I can use to do the migration? Upsizing wizard or exporting...

Windows user can't access some files burned using Toast with "Mac & PC" option
I burned a CD for my dad using Toast 6.0.1 and the Data/Mac & PC option on my iBook G4 running OS X 10.3.8. When my dad tries to use the CD in his Windows XP box, he sees only truncated names of files that had long names (very long...more than 32 characters for sure, but less than 70 characters) and can't seem to get Windows to do anything with those files. He's tried using Windows Explorer and command line stuff, but nothing works. The files just aren't recognized. Access MS-ACCESS database on server from client????

I think you're going to have to expand a little bit more in your question here, as is not 100% quite clear what you're trying to do. You might want to make a little bit of a distinction between MS access, the development system that allows you to write code, build forms, and build reports, and that of the database engine that you choose to use with MS access. When you build an application MS access, you then choose your database engine, that might be oracle, SQL server, or perhaps more often leave the default jet database. So when you say make a client access application, are you talking about a piece of software that you plan to install and each computer? The fact that your introducing the issue of java further complicates your question. Perhaps your question is simply you have some java code running on a server, and with to open a mdb file (an access database file). In this situation you're not really using MS access at all here (you using what is called the jet database engine to read that mdb file). For all the trouble in this type of sce...

request for explanation on access an database in ms access
This is the code that I found on the internet for accessing an ms access database: import java.sql.*; class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { try { Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver"); // set this to a MS Access DB you have on your machine String filename = "d:/java/mdbTEST.mdb"; String database = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ="; database+= filename.trim() + ";DriverID=22;READONLY=true}"; // add on to the end // now we can get the connection from the DriverManager Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( database ,"",""); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Error: " + e); } } } What I don't understand is the declaration of database. What I did was putting the database in the same dir as the sourcecode and use "jdbc:odbc:CafeJolt.mdb". But this doesn't work. And the above code does, why is that??? Actually it's not Java question. It's ODBC question. You have to have ODBC connection. Depending of Windows it's usually something like this (for my Windows 2000): Start->Sttings->Control Panel->Administartive Tools->Data Sources(ODBC)-> User DSN -> [Add]-> Driver to Microsoft Access(*.mdb) === And here, finally you can choose file name. ...

How to add records with 'Autonumber' property to a MS Access database using LabVIEW?
I am trying to write to a MS Access database. Everything works fine as long as I add data to all records at the same time. The database I am using have two tables (just for testing) with a 'one-to-many' relationship between the two. They both have a PrimaryKey with the data type 'AutoNumber'. is Random Access File really "random access"?
Hi, I am kind of new at this topic, but does anyone know that: is Java's Random Access File really "random access", or just java "simulate" it for newbie coders' easy coding? The difference is, for example, for a 100G file of many records, if the access to it is a REAL random access, then accessing any of its record will use almost the same time (and fast): accessing the first record will use the same time as accessing its 100th record, 1000000th record, etc., and all should be fast and use little resource. So I think it comes down to how the "seek(position)&...

I need to "hack" into an MS Access program
