file in use, could not use

Hi. I have two databases that are both linked to the same backend table. I
can't use them both at the same time, yet other users can have both
functioning simultaneously on their machines. Opening them is not the problem.
..but the error message appears when I run any queries linked to the table.
It works in one database, but not the other. All users are running XP sp2
with Access 2003.

The error message is the same regardless if anyone is using the backend or
not. I believe it is machine specific...MY machine.

I haven't a clue. Any ideas?

That has been confirmed. Shortcut or direct access results in the same. The
only thing I have learned is that the other machines were part of an XP clone.
My machine was not. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Reading an MS Access Database file on *NIX platform using PHP
I'm building a small web application for a friend using PHP. He'd like to use MS Access to keep the data in, and update the data on the site by FTP'ing Access files he edits on his machine up to the web host. The web host is unix-based (FreeBSD, slightly hacked by Verio, I believe), so this means COM functions aren't available. ODBC was my next thought, but I've never used it, and there are a few things I don't understand. Setting up a DSN is one of them -- apparently this isn't as simple as constructing a string, and all the tutorials I can find seem to involve ...

I want to plot column 2 against col. 1, but subtract a constant from col. 2. I read this in the manual: plot 'file' using 1:($2+$3) "%1f,%1f,%1f" which led me to use the above. I assume the format stuff is not needed. Using Windows IDL to access a UNIX database using DLM's
Hey All, I am relatively new to using IDL with very little knowledge of in-depth computer stuff (compilers/linkers/etc.). I am trying to access a database using DLM's written by someone else (in C). I have spent way too long trying to solve the problem by downloading different compilers, looking into different linking issues and I still haven't accomplished much. My major issue is trying to get IDL to load the DLM and use it. I have added a IDL_DLM_PATH to my environment variables so that when I type "help, /dlm" at the command line it shows that my DLM is there. I then...

Importing text files into MS Access using a Macro
I have 2 problems: 1. I want to import a single text file into an access table using a Macro. I am however getting an error that I need to put a specification name argument. What does this mean? It also suggests that I add a schema.ini in the source folder. What does this .ini do and how do I create and use it? 2. After this is resolved, I would like to be able to import several text files using a macro into the same table. Thanks I'm sure others will be able to shed more light on this: To create an import/export specification, launch the Import Wizard: File | Get External Data | Import... Point to the desired txt file Select the "Advanced..." button Specify the field delimiter, the text qualifier (you might want to select "" in case some of your incoming text fields have punctuations, etc.), and the field names and data types, etc. Then select "Save As" and give that set of specifications a name. You can now use this set of import/export specifications in a macro or in a VBA module. To see these specs as they are saved in the mdb file, select Tools | Options | View, and check System Objects. You'll now see the tables, MSysIMEXSpecs and MSysIMEXColumns. PS you might want to "unshow" these system objects once you've looked at them so you don't accidentally hose them... chimambo@googlemail.com wrote: > I have 2 problems: > > 1. How to get table names from ms access(mdb file) by using odbc library.
Hi. I am writing a c++ program get the data from mdb file using odbc library. By the way, I couldn't get table list from mdb file. i goolgled it up little bit, what i found is only using the ADO(or OLE i'm not sure) library and "SELECT Name FROM MSysObjects WHERE Type In (1,4,6) AND Left([Name], 4)<>"MSYS" this query. i already wrote a lot of part of this program so i don't want to switch database library. And the query gives "no read permission on 'MSysObjects' " error message. If you know how to get the table list from a mdb file by using odbc library, please share your experience. thank you. If you using odbc to a mdb file, then you MUST have jet installed, and THEREFORE you MUST also have dao installed on your machine (in fact, out of the box, windows xp, server 2003, vista etc DOES HAVE the jet database engine installed by default (thus you don't need to install anything on a windows computer to read mdb files. here is a windows (vbs) script that displays all tables...you can use late binding in your project, and you should little trouble getting a list of tables using the following idea. Set dbeng = CreateObject("DAO.DBEngine.36") strMdbFile = "C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence\My Documents\Access\ScriptExample\MultiSelect.mdb" Set db = dbeng.OpenDatabase(strMdbFile) for each table in db.tabledefs msgbox table.name next The above is not a vba script. How to add records with 'Autonumber' property to a MS Access database using LabVIEW?
