Probably there isn't a name of a form in the sub-form's Source Object
property. Also, the Link Child Fields and the Link Master Fields
properties may be blank - you must enter the names of the link fields,
they hold the field names that link the data between the forms.

I have two comboboxes on a form. Combobox1 uses field1 in another table
as its source of data. What I want to do is to enable combobox2 to use
field2 in that table, but only to show the rows of data that contain
the item selected in combobox1.
At the moment I can easily write a SQL statement with a WHERE clause,
but I only know how to specifiy static criteria. What I want is a
variable criteria, where the criteria is the data contained in combobox
Is this possible?
thanks for any help :)

In the AfterUpdate event of ComboBox1, specify the Row Source of ComboBox2
as a SELECT query. So if the first combo selects the state, then the second
combo of cities is filtered by that state:
Private Sub cboState_AfterUpdate()
Me!cboCity.RowSource = "SELECT city_id, cty_name FROM city WHERE
city_state = ' " & Me!cboState & " ' "

In my database, I have one instance where a specific collection of 7
forms are expected all at one time, so I tried to build an entry screen
where the entry form for each individual form is present as a subform
in a tabcontrol in one main form, to make it easier for my unit's Data
Entry Officers. Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with
scrolling that I have been resolve, probably caused either by the
tabcontrol or the subforms, since it does not occur when the form which
was used as a basis for the subform is opened individually. This
problem is that where the individual subform is longer than the screen
allows, the page does not scroll down when fields below the screen are
selected (so that when the field at the bottom of the screen is exited
by pressing tab, or enter, or by an autotab or skip, the next field is
selected without the screen scrolling down). Does anyone know how to
Not to worry - have sidestepped the issue by breaking up the content of
the subforms among further tab controls (which now means that I have
tab controls in subforms in a further tab control ... sigh).

Sorry for my English. English is not my native tougue.
I am working in MS Access 2000 with a SQLServer 2000 Backend database.
MS Access 2000 is my GUI front end that has SQLServer linked tables in
it. One of my forms has two TEXT BOX controls formated as Short Date.
The form is binded to a linked table. The linked tables has about 7
records and one of the control is binded to a table field. These two
controls displays the date correctly as 01/07/2006 and 31/07/2006 (I am
running Windows XP, my regional setting is set to English Australia,
location is set to Australia, language for non-Unicode programs is set
to English Australia, and my date format is set to d/MM/YYYY) when the
form is running. I have some VBA code behind the form to print out
these two dates to a text file. The dates show up as 30/12/2005 and
30/01/2006. I really do not know why these dates are totally different.
Here's my VBA code:
Open "C:\Results.txt" For Output Access Write Lock Write As #1
Print #1, "GL run from "; Me.txtFromDate; " to "; Me.txtToDate
Print #1, ""
I am hoping some one has come across with this problem.

oh, so you mean you're just outputting everything to a text file?
My guess is that since MS stores all it's data in US format, your have
to force it into Australian format when you write it to the file. What
happens if you use Format() and force it into the format you want?

Does anyone know how order they are processed in is workrd out, or more

The Control names are like

Place0102 ' TABLE No 1, Place 2
Place0103 ' TABLE No 1, Place 3
Place0327 ' TABLE No 3, Place 27

I hae read about Grid Control, but I think there is still a way to
access many instnaces on the same server using database control.
Of course you can, a DB Console for each database, and you can choose
that as your preferred approach, too. But I really think it's a waste
of resources and a big inconvenience. You are probably better off
with the "tradictional" desktop console.
Just my 2 cents.

Hello, I am still trying to figure out a method of controlling a discharge valve for compressor testing. The valve is controlled by a slider, but when it hits a certain point of being closed, the compressor surges. At that surge point, I want the user to click a button, and then have the valve slowly open while the data is being sent to a file. This way, the data is recorded and the valve opens to prevent damage to the compressor all at the click of one button. I have the VI up and running, all except for the opening part of the valve. I have included a simple example of where I am going with the valve control. Any advice would be appreciated, for then I can implement that code for the valve opening into the rest of my programming.

How on access can you set access controls to your users?
If they log in with one username and password they can just read
information and if they log in with another username and password they
can read and write?
I have no idea how to do this, is it even possible??
Try playing with the access security tool, you can add users, groups,
passwords, read/write allowances etc. to your database using that.
Its under the 'Tools' menu of Access.

Playing is not the proper word for it. I would never "play" with
installing security without a backup copy of the System.mdw file or a
backup of the application.
You should also recommend the SecFaq when "playing" with security.
Yeah i suppose playing wasn't the correct word for it.

I have set up speed testing. I noticed that the majority of the time to load
the login form (the form listed in my startup) is between the Form's Current
event and the first control's Enter event. It's between 1 - 6 seconds between
the two, which is by far the most time intesive part of the startup process.
Are there any events that come between these two? I thought they were
connected, and would be nearly simultaneous.
I checked the control, it's first on the tab order. All my controls on the

without a major decrease in time.
Am I missing anything?

I never said anything about "unbundle"! There is a 180 difference between "unbundle" and "bundle". :) You only need to unbundle if you want to know the current value, this is not needed if you want to write a new value regardless of what the current value is.

Short of inserting code similar to that shown below
in the OnGotFocus event property for each and
every control on the form, is there a form-level
event I could monitor firing similar code. I don't
want to sprinkle code all over the form if I can
do what I want in a single place.
Dim ctlCurrentControl As Control
Dim strControlName As String
Set ctlCurrentControl = Screen.ActiveControl
strControlName = ctlCurrentControl.Name
Me!ctlWhereIsFocus = ctlCurrentControl
To investigate this yourself all that you is put code behind each of
the form events that says which event is running. Then see if there is
one that fires when each field is updated.

But it doesn't work.
Thanks for any help to fix this.
Simon van Beek
In my experience, you first must go to the subform control, then to the
field within that control.
Try this, instead:
The GoToControl action has an inherent reference to the current active
form, which is why you cannot reference outside of the active form's
control collection. For more details, search the VB help file for
GoToControl Action. From the Access 97 VB help file:
"Tip: You can use the GoToControl action to move to a subform, which is
a type of control. <snip> You can also move to a control on a subform
by using the GoToControl action to move first to the subform and then
to the control on the subform."
If you are not starting your jump from the MasterForm (i.e., your
active form is a form other than the MasterForm), you'll need to first
set the focus to the subform control on the MasterForm, and THEN go to
the desired control, like this:
