Wonderful data input with reporting tool
Background
With the continual development of information technology, the
application of enterprise-level reporting tool is also improved
gradually. At first, it was stand-alone data operation, and on-line
file processing later. Then, OA software appeared before the brilliant
shining of standard financial software and QgESS software. After that,
the concepts of business process reengineering appeared, such as MRP$B-6(B,
ERP, EPM, BI, etc. Today, there are a lot of reporting softwares
available. However, too many choices only make users confused.

The Excel-like design style of reporting tool
Background
Designing reports with traditional reporting tools of control drag and
drop style, we are often troubled by the alignment of gridlines.
Especially when the report has a multi-level complex report header, it
has a huge workload and usually can not achieve a perfect effect.
With its unique spreadsheet design style, Excel avoids the trouble of
the alignment of gridlines. Therefore, wide end users have a special
liking to it, and ask for a reporting software with an Excel-like
design interface.
As a result, many report companies emulated Excel, and they thought

High-efficiency report design with Excel-like reporting tool
Background
Have you ever seen a reporting software which has a more suitable
interface to design static reports than Excel?
I believe that those who have made or read a certain number of reports
will say no to this question. Exactly, Excel's interface is the best
choice for static report design, as it has incomparable advantages in
efficiency, operation and setting.
Then, drag and drop reporting tool and Excel-like reporting tool,
which is better?
This dispute has once appeared in the professional reporting tool
industry. After all, those senior reporting tools are using the drag

Can we make Java report just by drag and drop?
Background
Most Java reporting tools, especially those have some BI
characteristics, often claim to end users that their products are
simple to use. Some reporting tools promise that they can allow end
users to make various statistical reports follow their own
inclinations, and even make a report just by drag and drop.
Has report development become so easily?!
The fact is that programmers are still struggling against various
reports. Both reporting softwares and OLAP products seldom allow end
users to use them directly, therefore, end users are still using
Excel.

Calculate the procurement cost of Web reporting tool
Generally, Web reporting tool accounts for about 10% of a software
development project. In recent 2 years, it showed an increasing trend.
According to my own projects, the cost of Web reporting tool can reach
20% at most. However, in calculations below, we still use 10% as a
standard, and assume the cost of each man-month as $2,500.
Take a $100,000 software development project for example, then the
procurement cost of Web reporting tool is $10,000. As the cost of each
man-month is $2,500, it needs 4 employees to accomplish the report. In

After making reports for a long time, I found something strange
recently. Various reporting software vendors advertise by all means to
attract users' attentions; however, programmers show great interests
in Jasper Report + iReport, the representatives of free and open

Why?
Jasper Report + iReport are pure Java reporting tools. I believe that

I'm new to OLAP and SQL Server Analysis Services 2005, and I'm not
sure how to do this: I have a fact table that holds one row per
security per day including measures like profit/loss, etc. Back in
the relational world, each security is associated with anywhere from 1
to 153 factors (one to many relationship), and these factors each have
a value for each day which I must somehow add to my cube. Here are
some of the ideas we've come up with, but they all seem bad:
1. Create 153 columns in the fact table, one for each factor's value.
2. For each day, instead of one row per

With this in mind, we will hire either an independent (e.g., 1099)
consultant on a consulting basis only, or someone who would be
interested in consulting on a W2 payroll basis for 2-3 months with a
potential hire-to-hire option.
Compensation depends on which way you want to go (e.g., independent

Analytical processing problem
We collect TV viewership data to provide details of =91who watched what=92
to advertising agencies. A typical report would show the distribution
of the number of people who watched a given advertisement. The report
will be further sliced into channels, categories of viewers, etc.
We were thinking of OLAP as the solution as it keeps the data pre-
processed.
The problem we face is the following:
User A watches from T0 to T20
User B watches from T0 to T10
User C watches from T10 to T20
If a single fact record represents 10 using of the time,
A report for T0 to T10 will show 2 users

Oracle 11g and Ascential DataStage 5.2.1
Hello,
I=B4m working in a DataWarehouse enviroment with Ascential DataStage
5.2.1 and Oracle 11g. We are trying to load information in a Oracle
database using DATASTAGE jobs. Our problem is with the commit. When
the job is runnig we dont see any rows in the database, it seems that
DataStage dont commit any change. But we have expecified 500 rows per
transaccion in the OCI component of the job.
With Oracle 9 and Oracle 10 it works but with Oracle 11 fail. In the
Jobs we are using the OCI component provided by Datastage.
Have anyboy seen this problem?
Thank you very much.

Location Intelligence where to from here?
Most people have heard of location intelligence tools such as Google
Maps, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Indeed, mapping
technology is used everywhere and can be accessed easily online, from
a phone, and on the road. But can these applications be used
successfully in a business information and reporting context? The
short answer is yes.
Although it is early days, the marriage between location and business
intelligence software is being seen by many commentators as a highly
productive long-term relationship, rather than just a temporary
fling.
What is location intelligenc
