Why Insulation is a Good Investment

Why Insulation is a Good Investment Investing in products to make homes more energy efficient pays significant dividends over a lifetime =97 with none of the wild fluctuations of Wall Street. Insulation contributes to: - Greater comfort - Even temperature distribution - Improved acoustics - Better moisture control, which can reduce floor squeaks, drywall cracks, structure damage and condensation - Potential for increased resale value: Installing proper insulation levels can also make your home more attractive to potential buyers. joining streamed pipelined function results with "real" tables

Hi, i like the approach for pipelined functions. But i wonder about the performance of joining the streamed result of a pipelined function with a "normal" table. There have been stated performance problems for this here: http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:1635437276096187::::P11_QUESTION_ID:19481671347143 However this is from 2005. Actually i expect oracle to perform good, if my join is like this: select something(rec.x, rec.y, rec.z) bulk collect into data from table(cast (dynData(cur) as table_of_something)) rec, account acct where acct.acct_id = rec.x

Async IO bug

Hi, After the installation of patch set 10.2.0.5, we seem to be hitting bug 9949948: "Linux: Process spin under ksfdrwat0 if OS Async IO not configured high enough". And even after several hits it won't die. According to MOS, the workarounds are: 1) increase aio-max-nr on the OS level 2) disable async_io on the database level We are on Red Hat 4 and apparently it's not possible to increase aio- max-nr on this operating system? It's now set to 65536. I'm not really in favor of disabling async_io for performance reasons... Anyone else having the same problem and how did you solve

Direct load mystery

A colleague of mine contacted me with the following issue. She's loading data, large quantities of it, into a 64-bit Oracle 10.2.0.5 on SUN Slowaris (should I say Oracle Slowaris?). She noticed that there is a significant increase in performance if the transit tables she's loading the data into are analyzed after they're truncated, immediately before the load. She's loading using the direct=true option to sqlldr. Now, my problem with the situation is the following: direct load should bypass the SQL layer, which also includes the optimizer. There shouldn't be anything to optimize

Difference bwtwwen REMOTE_LISTENER parameter not set and '' (empty string)

I looked at one of our databses' configuration settings using Embarcadero DBArtisan and the value came up as "N/A" which means "not available". If you look at it under SQLPlus, you get a line that shows the name and what looks like no value but no indication that the configuration parameter has actually be set. Our database standard calls for the value to be set as '' (empty string). Is there a difference between these two (not set and empty string)? Thanks in advance!

Oracle 11g binaries and different Sun architectures: sun4u and sun4v

Hi, Are the Oracle 11g binaries installed on our v890 (sun4u architecture, Solaris 10) the same as the Oracle binaries on a T2000 (sun4v architecture, Solaris 10)? Background We want to use our current v890's system disks to create a "duplicate" environment on a T2000. We use "flar's" for this purpose all the time. However, this is the first time we've gone from one architecture to another arch. The standard flar process won't work in this case. But Sun (Oracle) has a workaround that makes the flar method possible. If that process works, we would end up with the Oracle binari

Block Corruption in empty pages in Oracle 11g

I am using Oracle 11.1.0.7.1 on HP UNIX 11i. On several occasions, I have been seen that block corruptions are reported by rman. I have never seen this problem in previous release of databases; but I have seen it more than once in Oracle 11g. However, when I run dbv command; I do not see any corruption in data and index blocks; so my conclusion is block corruption is in empty pages. Anyone has ideas why block corruption occurs in Oracle 11g. Has Oracle=92s algorithm for checking block corruption have changed in 11g; I.e.; these corruptions existed in older Oracle releases but not rep

OCI protocol specification, where?

Where can I find a specification of the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) protocol? (And is it correct that most (if not all) APIs, e.g. ODBC, to connect to an Oracle database ends up sending OCI with to the server?) Thanks a lot!

Distinct values

I have recently had a conversation with an Oracle support engineer who told me that, when analyzing VARCHAR2 columns, Oracle only counts the first 32 characters. I checked the statement and it is true: SQL> create table test1(col varchar2(40)); Table created. Elapsed: 00:00:00.07 SQL> insert into test1 values('01235678901234567890123456789012A'); 1 row created. Elapsed: 00:00:00.07 SQL> insert into test1 values('01235678901234567890123456789012B'); 1 row created. Elapsed: 00:00:00.08 SQL> commit; Commit complete. Need example for 11g's new response file db_install.rsp

I download oracle software from otn.oracle.com Trying to install 11g 32 bit oracle , I download disk1 and disk2. My question is , now the db_install.rsp is the "new response file" for installing oracle software?? In the past, I used enterprise.rsp. Also there is 2 disk2, one is disk1 and one is disk2, now I am confuse how to tell oracle's response file to look for one after the other one. Also, do anyone has one 11g db_install.rsp file (example) that I could take a look. thanks, Dominica
