[PL/SQL] DataBASE Interaction with PL/SQL
Hello Oracle Guru's,
I know that PL/SQL does't accept any user inputs.
but i need the following functionality like And Please do not ask the
reason for.
(My question is coming at the end of this part)
Algorithm
1.Execute a procedure
2. accept some input parameters
3. check for some condition
4. pass those accepted parameter to the Dynamic SQL/cursor etc....
5. Print the output using DBMS.Package
6.The END
Here is a sample procedure, but this procedure
will accept parameters only when a run the entire procedure (first
time)

You answered your question in your very first sentence when you
wrote: "I know that PL/SQL does't accept any user inputs."
You need a front-end tool to do this.
Quite frankly DBMS_OUTPUT is intended for debugging, not an
application front-end. You need to rethink what you are trying
to do.

& is treated as any other character outside of SQL*PLus (GUI and
command line). Even within SQL*Plus, it can be switched on/off using
"set define off/&". You should declare an IN parameter to your stored
procedure if you want to execute it with different values. Stored code
remains the same as compiled, however, your input value could differ at
runtime. e.g.
SQL> set define off
SQL> set serverout on
SQL> create or replace procedure foo
2 is
3 begin
4 dbms_output.put_line('&value is just test');
5 end foo;
6 /
Procedure created.
SQL> execute foo;
&value is just test
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> create or replace procedure foo (
2 input_ in varchar2)
3 is
4 begin
5 dbms_output.put_line(input_);
6 end foo;

Procedure created.
SQL> execute foo('&value is just test');

Practicing SQL on sample database through PL SQL
Hello All, I have installed oracle 9.2 on a Win XP Pro. I have managed to create a schema. All I want to learn for the time being is 1 .PL SQL Commands . 2 . and learn to use the "Select" statement effeciently coz I would be using it in SAS. So can I import a database and practice querrying to glory. Does PL-SQL exist only for Oracle or for other database products as well ?
Sorry for this newbie question: But is PL-SQL a special Oracle script language or does it exist for other database products as well ? Maybe PL-SQL is not an original part of MS-SQL Server resp. MySQL but there are 3rd party add-ons for these other products ? Strange behavious
I have a query which runs fine in SQL*Plus but which will not compile into a packaged procedure (claiming that the table can not be found): SELECT DISTINCT Folder_ID INTO l_RootID -- remove this line in SQL*Plus context FROM ifssys.ifs_folder_items WHERE Folder_Name = 'Root Folder' AND TYPE = 'FOLDER'; -> PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist (If I get rid of the "INTO" by using a cursor - making the code identical - I still get the same thing.) I have tried "AUTHID CURRENT_USER" and "AUTHID DEFINER" in the package specification but these do not make any difference (as expected - it is not a run-time error). I have tried granting "SELECT" on all IFSSYS tables and views, but this makes no difference (as expected). I am starting to pull my hair out, and I have a horrible feeling I am missing something obvious, but I CAN'T SEE IT! I am running iAS 9.0.2 and DB 9.0.1 (I am using the DB inside iAS - I know it is less than ideal, but I am working on a tight hardware budget and this is a development server). Hello All, I have installed oracle 9.2 on a Win XP Pro. I have managed to create a schema. All I want to learn for the time being is 1 .PL SQL Commands . 2 . and learn to use the "Select" statement effeciently coz I would be using it in SAS. Strange behavious
I have a query which runs fine in SQL*Plus but which will not compile into a packaged procedure (claiming that the table can not be found): SELECT DISTINCT Folder_ID INTO l_RootID -- remove this line in SQL*Plus context FROM ifssys.ifs_folder_items WHERE Folder_Name = 'Root Folder' AND TYPE = 'FOLDER'; -> PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist (If I get rid of the "INTO" by using a cursor - making the code identical - I still get the same thing.) I have tried "AUTHID CURRENT_USER" and "AUTHID DEFINER" in the package specification but these do not make any difference (as expected - it is not a run-time error). I have tried granting "SELECT" on all IFSSYS tables and views, but this makes no difference (as expected). I am starting to pull my hair out, and I have a horrible feeling I am missing something obvious, but I CAN'T SEE IT! I am running iAS 9.0.2 and DB 9.0.1 (I am using the DB inside iAS - I know it is less than ideal, but I am working on a tight hardware budget and this is a development server). Please can someone give me some pointers or a solution!
