Cannot log into Oracle Management Server.

When I login to the Oracle Management Server I got error screen:

VTK-1000: Unable to connect to the management server puma. PLease verify
that you have entered the correct host name and the status of the Oracle
Mangement Server.

I am running Window2000 Server and Oracle 9i downloaded from Oracle website.
After installation, I create OEM repository using Enterprise Manager
Configuration Assistant. Then I can login Oracle Management Server using
SYSMAN/oem_temp. I was prompted to change SYS and SYSTEM password for
database. I did. I don't remember if I changed the SYSMAN/oem_temp. Now I
can not login Oracle Management Server anymore after I login the first time.

Any help?
Thank you for posting in the holidays. Happy New Year.

This question is being asked and answered at least once a week.
So the answer to this should by now have been archived, and of course
it is in the Oracle docs:
You didn't run the Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant to
create a repository.

That would be the management service, not the repository instance.
Did you build the repository using the SYS or SYSTEM account for
the repository, or did you choose to have a seperate user, as advised?
If SYS or SYSTEM, change the password back to it's original, login
to the service (sysman/oem_temp), and change the login credentials
for the repository. Then change the SYS (or SYSTEM) password, and stop
the Management Server SERVICE, then start.
You should now be able to connect. Provided the service would be running
in the first place...

Thanks for pointing out where to look up help, I found my answer at Oracle
OTN discussion forum. Actually, I did create repository using EMCA. The
problem is thatWindows doesn't start up OMS automatically so I need to start
it manually first.
Many thanks.

"If you did not use oPatch" ... what? >"If you did not use oPatch" ... what? In my 8i environments, there are separate scripts that are run - for example, for a cpu, it would be 'install_cpu.sh'. In those cases, I really don't know how (if) one can confirm which patches have been applied to an environment. ...

Oracle management server with only one database going to 9i
We will be changing from a 8.1.7 to Oracle 9i. I would like to impliment some "best practices" right from the start. Being rather green, 5 day dba course, makes you a dba at our shop. I have done some research into Oracle Management server. I was thinking of implementing this in our shop, even though it will only be monitoring one database, possible two. The reason for the management server that perked my interest, in that fact that I can use RMAN for backup, but the real reason was using it for event monitoring. We do not have the man power to continuely look at the alert log, and we are always creating scripts to monitor table sizes, etc. I was wondering if this would be a good thing, and is it commonly used for one database. I am also looking at how much overhead it needs. Size RAM ect. Is there a good READ about this? SqlSpec
Do you wish you had comprehensive, easily navigable documentation for your SQL Server, Oracle, Analysis Server, MySQL, and Access databases? Are you a SQL Developer or DBA that just inherited a huge, complex database with no supporting docs and don't know where to start learning how it's put together? Are you an independent contractor working with SQL Server, Oracle, Analysis Server, MySQL, or Access? Your clients would LOVE you if you could provide comprehensive documentation about the databases you build. Are you a Project Manager who is tired of developers making changes to databases on live servers and not updating the corresponding spec? SqlSpec will make sense of it all and generate easy-to-read docs for you for any database on the following platforms: * SQL Server 2000/2005 * Oracle 9i (and above) * MySQL 5.0 (and above) * Analysis Server 2005 * Access 97/2000/XP/2003 SqlSpec generates documentation in two formats: HTML or CHM. HTML is useful for publishing your documents on the web or an intranet site. CHM is useful if you want a single, compact file containing all your documentation about one or more databases. The CHM is indexed so it is easily searchable for any keyword. This way you can easily determine which objects reference the "EmployeeID" column, for example. No, these might be different *services* served by the same instance. The first place to look at is /var/opt/oracle/oratab file, which should list all Oracle instances on your host. If your Oracle installation follows OFA (Optimal Flexible Architecture,) which is usually true, count $ORACLE_BASE/admin/<dbname> directories - each database should have its own directory under admin. Alternatively, you can also count spfile<SID>.ora files in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory. Hth, Vladimir M. How to connect from web server to Oracle server?
I am converting an applet from Sybase to Oracle and I haven't yet found information on how to accomplish the connect from the end-user's browser-running applet and the Oracle server. Our understanding is that the applet, running on end-users' PC's, can only connect to the web server which "served" the applet to the users' browsers. In our configuration, the Oracle server is a separate machine from the web server. Therefore it would appear that we will need to install some sort of middleware on the web server that will pass the Oracle traffic back and forth between the Oracle server and user's browser sessions. With the Sybase implementation we have been using the Sybase jConnect product, running on our web server, for this purpose. Will we also require such a middleware product with Oracle, and does Oracle offer such a product? Oracle Application Server Internal Server Error
Hello, We are using OAS 9.0.4.1 run on AIX 5.3 with an Oracle 10.1.0.2 DB back end running on a seperate partition of the machine. The main application is developed in house on forms6 and migrated to forms9 a couple of years ago when we moved to AIX. Since the move we get an "Internal Server Error", in the web browser, occuring randomly when users try to login to the application. Through some investigation it appears as though the OC4J_BI_Forms service becomes unresponsive for a short period of time causing the web server request to time out. Users who are logged into the system can still work but no new users can get in. Has anybody else experienced this problem? Anybody got any ideas where to start looking? We have a TAR logged with Oracle but as usual they've said that they won't help us until we go to 9.0.4.3. Which we haven't been able to do as the patching process keeps failing. Thanks a lot !! cclemon cclemon wrote: > Hi ~!! > > Do anyone know what software or method to migrate a 24X7 DB2 to Oracle server ? > or I must close the DB2 server before I do the migration ? > > Thanks a lot !! > > cclemon Are you asking how you can have the DB2 server up and running and seemlessly migrate active transactions to Oracle? If so ... it isn't going to happen. Your best course of action is to pick a point-in-time where all new transactions are sent to the Oracle server and then when the last DB2 transaction terminates ... quickly migrate any recently changed transactions. -- Daniel Morgan http://www.outreach.washington.edu/ext/certificates/oad/oad_crs.asp http://www.outreach.washington.edu/ext/certificates/aoa/aoa_crs.asp damorgan@x.washington.edu (replace 'x' with a 'u' to reply) Pah! Impossible. Some of their transactions NEVER terminate... -- Cheers Nuno Souto wizofoz2k@yahoo.com.au.nospam "Daniel Morgan" <damorgan@x.washington.edu> wrote in message news:1077908166.220643@yasure... > Your best course of action is to pick a point-in-time where all new > transactions are sent to the Oracle server and then when the last > DB2 transaction terminates ... quickly migrate any recently changed > transactions. looking for notes on oracle 9ias server and report server
hi, I am a DBA. currently learning oracle 9ias . I have the documentation from oracle. But it is really lengthy. I am looking for notes from where I can get a brief over view of oracle 9ias and as a adminstrator what type of role I have to perform. any pointers towards this will be helpful. thanking in advance, regards Chennakeshava Ramesh (same as ramesh_jun24) Are you going to install, configure, develop, and support stuff in 9ias or just administer it after someone else does all the above? What kinds of apps will be running in your 9ias environment and where are they from? Are they java, forms, reports, plsql? Unfortunately the 9ias environment is not one that is easily approached at a minimalist level. The configuration is not as bad as it used to be but still can be quite involved. ...

You may have an invalid Oracle Home in your path reference for jre in the oemctl file. R Hi GuessWho, It was a fresh install on the server, but I am installing the repository on the existing database instead of creating a new instance. I checked on the oracle_home.it seems to be fine.
