Install problems with Oracle installer 2.2 for Oracle 9i Client 9.2.0.1.0Please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong forum - I am an
Oracle Newbie.
Here are my computer specs :
Windows 2003 - fully patch from Microsoft as of Sept 4th 2004
HP LP2000r
1 x 1,1 Gig Intel processor
1 GB RAM
Hardware RAID 1, 12 GB with 8 GB freespace
Clean install, no other programs.
At first I tried running the Oracle installer program from the CD ROM
and came up with the error that it could not find the javaw.exe
program. I then tried installing and reinstalling several versions of
java to no avail. Next I searched through groups.google and found the
solution:
1. Copy the Oracle CD to the hard drive. I copied it to a subfolder
directly to C:\Oracle9i
2. Change the file c:\oracle9i\install\ORAPARAM.INI to reflect the
actual name of the directories listed in the install directories of
the cd I just copied. I did this and next took out some "."s and put
the absolute path to the java program and something called the
"OUI_LOCATION".
JRE_LOCATION=C:/oracle9i/stage/Components/oracleswdjre/13110a/1/DataFiles/Expanded
OUI_LOCATION=C:/oracle9i/stage/Components/oracleswdoui/220120/1/DataFiles/Expanded
Okay so good so far. This time the installer actually started.
The problem occurs in the next few steps, when I click "next" (weiter
in German) from the welcome screen- please understand if I translate
something wrong here.
Then I am shown the installation directory screen, where I select the
default listed:

Problems installing 10.2.0.2 patchset to a 10.2.0.1 databaseI am trying to install the latest patchset to my 10gR2 database. When
i double click on setup.exe nothing visable happens. The process is
launched and according to Windows Task manager is taking up 50% of my
CPU. The process just sits there spinning away and nothing happens.
I have shutdown, using Service Control Manager, all Oracle services

Sometimes it helps when you do not use the setup.exe in the root of your
installation, but the one in the install directory.
Reboot before patching might help too. Has to do with conflicting javaw.exe
versions or something like that.

Connecting to 8.1.7 Database from Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2, also have 10g Client R2 installed.Hi,
Can anyone help,
I install the 10g Client R2 ( 10.2.0.1.0 ), this lets me logon to
our 8.1.7.0.0 Oracle Database server without any issues, from TOAD,
SQLWorksheet SQLPLUS etc,
I then downloaded and in stall the ORACLE Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
but can't get any of the development software forms/reports etc to
connect to the 8.1.7.0.0
database, all the other stuff above still works as it uses the 10.2
Client path.
Is there anyway to make the Developer Suite use the 10.2 client path
for it's connectivity/middleware stuff, or do I need to do something
else to the developer suite ??
Regards,
Sean.

Comparisons Oracle 11.1.0.7 to Oracle 10.2.0.4I have made some performance comparison tests on test computers and it has
turned out that the Oracle 11 databases are in general slower compared to
the Oracle 10 databases by 10 to 30%. The databases are running on Windows
Vista and Windows 2003 64 Bit. We hope that the release 2 of Oracle 11 gives
some enhancements because in general there are not many advantages regarding
new features useable for us.
Has someone made similar comparison results?

That has not been the case for us but we are running on Linux 64 bit
systems.
When you say "on test computers" that makes me nervous. One has to be
very careful to get identical environments. One has to look very
carefully at oracle settings between the environments.

You should have installed Designer first.
And you need to install Designer in a *different* Oracle home, which
can be accomplished by changing Oracle home in the installer.

Upgrading oracle db 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.2 java issuesHi all,
We are upgrading our oracle database from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.2. has
anyone had previous experience with this that they can point out
potential pitfalls? I am talking more on the java side than actually
the installation.
We have a java system talking to the oracle database. One system is
using hibernate, the other is using a DAO pattern with direct JDBC
calls. Does anyone know if this change will effect the application and
what changes we must do to accomadate? For example I know that oracle
10.2.0.2 has a different timestamp (oracle.timestamp) than that of it

Oracle AS 10g 10.1.2 on RHEL v4 update 2 installing problemIs the Oracle AS certification problem for RHEL v4?
On metalink, RHEL 4 is not mentioned in the certification Matrix, but
at Red Hat's website, they mentioned that all Oracle products are
certified on this version.
I tried installing Oracle AS 10g 10.1.2 on RHEL v4, but Oracle
installer will crash/close immediately after startup? without giving
any useful hints in the logfiles.
I've done all prerequisite processes (packages, kernel parameter, env
variables etc.)
Any idea?
Thanks

If the OS is not on Metalink Oracle didn't certify it, whatever Redhat
says. Consequently, you are on your own.

Best Way to Access remote Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 DB from a Linux serverI want to use a perl or unix script running on a linux server to
access an Oracle v. 10.2.0.1.0 database on a remote machine, and
process the output with the script. What is the best way to do this?
I'm thinking some possible options are: install Oracle 11 cllient

database v.11, or install Oracle express. Appreciate your comments.

Upgrade from Oracle 9.2.0.1 to Oracle 9.2.0.3Hello All,
I am trying to upgrade oracle 9.2.0.1 to new patchset 9.2.0.3 or
9.2.0.4. Please recommend which is better 9.2.0.3 or 9.2.0.4?
Also I had a bad experience with my development server when applying
9.2.0.3 patchset. Is there anything you recommend before I start
again?
Thanks

Hello Kumu,
What is the reason for upgrade? Any specific bugs or issues you
experience?
You can open TAR as well to get support recommendations for your
situation.
New patches can introduce new problems as you can see,

You can't.
You can use lower version export to export higher version database.
The other way around has never been possible.

You probably have Oracle 9.2.0.1 running somewhere right,
perhaps on another machine ?
Set your ORACLE_HOME to 9.2.0.1
then export through sqlnet:
exp username/pwd @9207instance
Now you'll use the 9.2.0.1 export utility; this should work.

Oracle is backwards compatible provided you have the definition of
backwards compatible correct.
You can connect (again) *lower version client* to a *higher version
database*
The other way around has nothing to do with backwards compatible,
though it usually works, *with the exception of export/import, AS
DOCUMENTED* (but I guess no one ever reads the docs)

It's worth your time to upgrade as there are many fixes. To see which,
log on to metalink and review the 'Fixes by Release' note.
Remember that if you have ANY problem, the first general response is to
upgrade to the latest version and then investigate. "Why wait for
spring - do it now!"
(I suspect there is probably a good reason why Oracle posted a separate
download for Windows2003 Server as compared to the download for
NT/XP/2000 - make sure you have the right one.)

Problem Installing Oracle 9.2.0.1 on AIX 5.3 ML03I am having problems installing Oracle 9.2 on AIX 5.3 ML03
I have installed the 28 fixes for the IY76140 - CHILD PROCESS UNABLE
TO LOAD A MODULE (bos.sysmgt.nim.master.5.3.0.40.bff &
devices.vdevice.hvterm-protocol.rte.5.3.0.40.bff didnt install cos the
prequisites werent installed).
Basically what is happening is the server is hanging before exporting
anything to the desktop, due to the following error:
$ The Java RunTime Environment was not found at /tmp/
OraInstall2007-03-12_08-50-28PM/jre/bin/java. Hence, the Oracle
Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or
higher and try again.
: No such file or directory
When i look in the /tmp/Ora* directory there is no jre folder. I have
java installed at /usr/java131 and /usr/java5 - I have tried with each
of these available from the path.

Oracle 10.1.0.3 client(64 bits) linking error on SuSe 9.2Hi All,
Has anyone successfully install Oracle 10.1.0.3 (64 bits) on a linux
SuSe 9.2?
Let me give you my host's configuration and then I will show you the
error message:
HOST: test2
OS: GNU/Linux
RELEASE: SuSE Linux 9.2 (x86-64)
VERSION: 9.2
KERNEL_RELEASE: 2.6.8-24.14-smp
KERNEL_VERSION: #1 SMP Tue Mar 29 09:27:43 UTC 2005
CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz
CPU_COUNT: 4
PROCESSOR_TYPE: x86_64
RAM: 2054752 kB
LAST_PATCHED: *auto*
Oracle error is:
Error in invoking target 'ntcontab.o' of makefile
'/nfs/netapp/nethome/oracle/product/10.1.0-64bit/10.1.0/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk
At the time of "linking"?
test2 /nethome/oracle> echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/opt/gnome/bin
echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH: Undefined variable.
Do I need LD_LIBRARY_PATH??
Thank in advance,
Dom

Upgrading Oracle ODBC 10.1.0.2.0Upgrading a database from Oracle 9i to 10g.
I have encountered a problem with the ODBC 10.1.0.2.0 driver, it
transforms the 21 numeric digits from a PK column to a scientific
format.
Has anyone found this problem?, is any other work around but changing
the numer to varchar ?
Thanks in advance

Which should be nothing more than a display issue. Try setting
numwidth to a value greater than the largest exponent displayed:
SQL> select empno, ename, bizarre_num
2 from emp;
EMPNO ENAME BIZARRE_NUM
---------- ---------- -----------
7369 SMITH 4.3442E+10
7499 ALLEN 8.9976E+10
7521 WARD 7.0707E+10
7566 JONES 1.7030E+11
7654 MARTIN 7.3230E+10
7698 BLAKE 1.6889E+11
7782 CLARK 1.4837E+11
7788 SCOTT 1.8196E+11
7839 KING 3.0725E+11
7844 TURNER 9.2293E+10
7876 ADAMS 6.8235E+10
EMPNO ENAME BIZARRE_NUM
---------- ---------- -----------
7900 JAMES 5.9290E+10
7902 FORD 1.8732E+11
7934 MILLER 8.1833E+10
14 rows selected.
The largest exponent displayed is 11, so set the numwidth to 12:
SQL> set numwidth 12
...
