Table function parameters don't seem to be working

I'm working on Oracle 10g R2.

I have a query I'm trying to write using a table function. I need to put a
date range in the query which is against a partitioned table - partitioned
on the date. When I run a non-table function version it takes 4 minutes yet
when I run the table function version it can take 15-20 minutes or more. It
almost seems as if the table function doesn't see the parameters in the
cursor. I would like to use the table function and take advantage of the
ability to pipe rows back and being able to manipulate the data within the
function when loading tables.

The non table function query:

INSERT INTO clm_rx_temp
  SELECT *
      FROM claim.clm_rx
   WHERE pch_dt BETWEEN v_start_date AND v_end_date;

Explain Plan:
INSERT STATEMENT
  Load as select
    Filter
      Partition range iterator
        Table access full CLAIM.CLM_RX TABLE

THe table function query:

INSERT INTO clm_rx_temp
  SELECT *
   FROM TABLE ( load_clm_rx_temp
                              ( CURSOR( SELECT *
                                                      FROM claim.clm_rx
                                                    WHERE pch_dt BETWEEN
v_start_date AND v_end_date ) ));

Explain plan:

INSERT STATEMENT
  LOAD AS SELECT
    VIEW
      COLLECTION ITERATOR PICKLER load_clm_rx_temp
procedure
        FETCH
          FILTER
            PARTITION RANGE ITERATOR
              TABLE ACCESS FULL claim.clm_rx
TABLE

I have other table functions which have greatly increased the speed of
processing and data manipulation but this is the only one which has been
deterimental rather than helpful.

I don't have that much experience with table functions and nobody else at my
office has heard of them so I'm on my own here and am stuck. Any
advice/suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks.

It is possibly that this is the first case where the
work done by the procedural code in the middle
has a visible impact.

First step: run the two versions with sql-trace enabled
to see if you can get the execution plans and row source
statistics from the trace file to see if the work done by
the critical SQL has changed. You could also run
with event 10046 set at level 8 to see if the blocks read
by the two queries match, or whether one does a lot
more work than the other.

Windows as a 'database' server? I /don't/ think so...
This problem occured today. Luckly it was on a test database! Windows is *not* production ready... http://www.sql-server-performance.com/sql_server_performance_audit6.asp Torn_Page_Detection Because data pages in SQL Server (8K) and NT Server or Windows Server (512 bytes) are different sizes, it is possible during power failures, or if you are have disk driver or physical disk problems, for your database to become corrupted. Then mepis8 collapsed suddenly and nothing worked. I tried the newer mepis variants and every other linux distro that I came across to solve the problem, but nothing works. Keep it simple please. Complicated is fine as long as it's step by step or copy and paste. Unfortunately, after about 12 years on linux, I will be driven back to windows if I don't get some help. The Mepis forums used to be excellent for advice because there weren't any bigheads showing off their superior knowledge of linux on it. The Ubuntu forums seem to be the opposite, more than 1000 posts (in two threads) on why they prefer ubuntu to xp, but none of them can help me get my webcam working!!!! 10g: parallel pipelined table functions with cursor selecting from table(cast(SQL collection)) doesn't work
i try to distribute SQL data objects - stored in a TABLE OF <SQL object-Type> - to MULTIPLE (parallel) instances of a table function, by passing a select CURSOR(...) to the table function, which selects from the SQL TABLE OF storage via "select * from TABLE(CAST(<storage> as <storage-type>)". But oracle always only starts a single table function instance :-( - whatever hints i provide or setting i use for the parallel table function (parallel_enable ...) Could it be, that this is due to the fact, that my data are not globally available, but only in the main thread data? Can someone confirm, that it's NOT possible to start multiple parallel table functions for selecting on SQL data type TABLE OF <object> storages? I let him set up the machine in Control Center first (he's a right hander and I'm a leftie), using KDE Control center, and then had him launch and run UT2004. I did't say anything about this being a Linux machine and I have no idea if he knows what Linux is even. I was about to "give the speech about Linux" and I decided, no, I would just let him use the machine and see what he said. He said nothing. He just used the machine as a PC, made the changes, launched an app and played UT04. To me that speaks volumes. That a new user to Linux, who's never seen it in his life, did not perk up and say "oh, what's this! is it some new kind of computer!". No, it was just another GUI, that allowed him to do the task that he wanted to. And that means that there is nothing stopping Linux. don't tell don't ask
I'm still struggling with OO concepts. I've read several books and studied various OO languages, but I don't really feel I have a good grasp of the concepts. I like the sound of the "tell, don't ask" model, where networks of objects are asked to perform the work they are responsible for, rather than asking objects to give you information (like a string) that you do something with. But, I get confused when I try to apply the idea to a program design. The only way I can think of avoiding asking objecs for information is if the program consists of nothing but one object of class "Program" with one method called "execute" that does everything. I've seen an example of bad design: AssociativeArray c = object.getEmployees() for each employee in employees: c.put(employee.name(), employee) the "tell don't ask" version of which could be: object.addEmployees(employees); So, "object"'s class supports the "tell model", by allowing you to tell it to add employees rather than asking it for a map to modify. But, doesn't that mean that "employees"'s class has to support the "ask model", so that it "object" can get each of the "employee" objects and their names? Is there a way to actually use "tell" insead of "ask", through out. Or, how do you categorize when you should use "tell" and when you should use "ask"?...

Vector vars don't work with lag() function?
