I am using Oracle 9.2.0.4 on IBM AIX 5.1 L System. Our DB Server had IP of "100.101.102.103" and our Tomcat Application Server (IP of 200.201.202.203) used to talk to above DB onn Port 1521. The syste

I am using Oracle 9.2.0.4 on IBM AIX 5.1 L System. Our DB Server had
IP of "100.101.102.103" and our Tomcat Application Server (IP of
200.201.202.203) used to talk to above DB onn Port 1521. The system
was working great for 6 months or so.

Then we changed our Netwok Locations of these Boxes and now both of
them have different IP.
DB IP: 1.2.3.4
App IP: 50.51.52.53

(Note above IP are hypothetically for example)

But now when I run my DB and LSNRCTL, I am surprised that it is still
listeneing on my old IP:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Started with pid=483502
Listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=100.101.102.103)(PORT=1521)))
Listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=ipc)(KEY=EXTPROC)))

--------------------------------------------------------------------

And so my Application fails to connect to the DB. I tried configuring
my LISTENER (using netmgr/netca and even manually editing listener.ora
file)

I changed all my CONFIGURATION Files (server.xml, tnsnames.ora,
listener.ora etc etc etc....) Did I miss any other file to tell Oracle
that my NEW IP is 1.2.3.4?

Can anyone help me on this solution? Any related information is
appreciated.

THANKS!

Tomcat? jdbc, probably. Check the WEB_INF direcory for
application specific .properties file(s). There
should be a connection entry in it, which could
contain an IP-address.
Next time, make sure your DNS is up and working,
and stick to that.

Using DVD format "UDF" or "UDF/ISO" in Nero? UDF version 1.02, 1.5 or 2.0?
I need to backup a huge file (> 2GB) on a DVD+RW. Thus I have to use the UDF format because ISO is only defined for files smaller than 2 GB. However Nero offers two formats UDF and UDF/ISO. What is the difference? Which one is more safe? Which is more compatible with other DVD-Readers/Burners hardware? Which is more used? Furthermore if I want to use pure UDF I have the choice between different versions: 1.02, 1.5 and 2.0 I guess in the meanwhile nearly all DVD burners (and readers) understand version 2.0. Am I right? Is version 2.0 necessary or are only some gimmicks...

Port forwarding

If I use the IP in port forwading, I can successfully connect to the destination MySql server by using "localhost" or 127.0.0.1 in my connection. If I establish the port forward using "localhost", I can only connect by using the IP address (this is no good to me for reasons I will explain!). "Correct" term for a 1:1 relationship between a "database" and an "instance" where > 1 such things are on the same physical server?
What is the "correct" term for a 1:1 relationship between a "database" and an "instance" where there are at least two such "things" on the same physical server? Nearly all the Oracle docs and books define a database something like the following: DATABASE - a collection of datafiles and oracle config files; useless without an "instance" to access the database. INSTANCE - a collection of background procs and memory structures, used to access a "database." Where I work, people typically call each "thing" mentioned in my Sub...

Best Way to Access remote Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 DB from a Linux server
I want to use a perl or unix script running on a linux server to access an Oracle v. 10.2.0.1.0 database on a remote machine, and process the output with the script. What is the best way to do this? I'm thinking some possible options are: install Oracle 11 cllient (assume it is backwards compatible), install the entire Oracle database v.11, or install Oracle express. Appreciate your comments. Conflicting uses of "ip dhcp-server" -- design flaw?
I have a 1841 I'm trying to configure as a VPN server to access a Windows domain-based network from the Internet. The key points: 1) the WAN Ethernet interface _must_ be configured as a DHCP client of the ISP. They do not assign true statics. 2) I'd much prefer that my VPN clients receive their settings via the DHCP server on the Windows domain controller on the LAN. I can do one or the other, but not both. The reason boils down to having to use "ip dhcp-server" to specify the LAN DHCP server for the VPN, and when I do that, the WAN Ethernet interface cannot receive ...

massive performance drop Oracle 9i on multi processor system (Windows Server 2003, Oracle 9i, 9.2.0.6.0)
The performance of some complex PL/SQL functions has dropped dramatically since migrating from Oracle 8i (8.1.7.0.0) on Windows Server 2000 to 9i (9.2.0.6.0) on Windows Server 2003. We found out, that Oracle 9i performance on a multi processor CPU machine (our server has 4 XEON CPUs, Hyperthreading is disabled in BIOS) is highly dependent on init.ora parameters; unfortunately our trial and error approach to find the proper settings (we searched Oracle Tech Net (OTN) and google groups without success) did not help so far. We are testing performance behaviour with some business critical PL/SQL ...
