MV*base to Windows

Need to bring lot of stuff from mvbase 1.3.01 into MS Office+;
particularly bring tables into Excel or even Access97.
What do I need to do that?

With mvBase, the quickest way, certainly on 1.3.02 is to use UOPEN /
UWRITE and send tab delimited files to the DOS side. We do loads of
stuff like this and it's quite quick.

I don't know about support for the U statements on 1.3.01 though.

I don't get it, Chuck; I can read and compose HTML
format just fine in Outlook Express.

Maybe you can explain what "translate" means in this context?

LMFAO! Thanks... that went right over my...
dare I say... "head" the first time. =`:^D

(Turns out that OE wasn't the problem, BTW.)

Have you considered exporting, using one of the excellent terminal
emulator programs, such as AccuTerm or ViaDuct?

Simon is correct with his code snippet.

I may be tempted to do something like:

UCREATE "C:\TEMP\OUTPUT.TXT" TO DOSFILE ELSE STOP
OPEN "MVFILE" TO MVFILE ELSE STOP
SELECT MVFILE TO SELLIST
LOOP
READNEXT ID FROM SELLIST ELSE EXIT
 OUTPUT=CHANGE(ID,CHAR(254),CHAR(9))
UWRITE OUTPUT:CHAR(13):CHAR(10) ON DOSFILE ELSE NULL
REPEAT
UCLOSE DOSFILE ELSE STOP

....of course it would look prettier and probably with better variables
and equates. you'll need to explicitly send EOL characters (i.e. ^M^J)

Using CHAR(9) as the delimiter gets around commas and means it could be
taken straight into Excel.

UREADLINE is undocumented on 1.3.02 (is doc'd on 2.0) and reads from a
dos file until a CRLF is encountered.

Any messing about with mv expansion you'd have to handle yourself.

Hi AMA,

This may be a bit long winded but below i have pasted in a program I use =
to use to export out some customers details.

I also have a demo account that shows how to export details in a =
formatted way to excel, very simple example, ( Uses HTML ) If you want =
it then let me know and I can email it to you. =
craigxxxxxxxxsutton@xxxxxntlworld.com ( just remove all of the x )

To use the code below you need a temp folder on your c drive and EXCEL

I also use mvTERM to do everything through ( No need for any other =
emulators )

Sorry if it is not what you are looking for

I you have not tried it yet using NOTEPAD in the DEMO account is very =

There is also the provied program OSCOPY, which does a lot of that for you.
It is bi-directional, meaning it works to and from dos and mvBase.
Try that and see what you think of the results. It is in the DEMO account.

With mvBase, the quickest way, certainly on 1.3.02 is to use UOPEN /
UWRITE and send tab delimited files to the DOS side. We do loads of
stuff like this and it's quite quick.
I don't know about support for the U statements on 1.3.01 though.

Best Windows-based database for replication/synchronization
Are there Windows databases on the market that allow a database to be maintained simultaneously in two locations? IOW, both copies of the database are automatically and continually kept synchronized with each other to within a few seconds. A customer has asked me to upgrade a system I did for them many years ago, based on Microsoft Access, in order to improve the response time when the loading is heavy. Presently, the web server and the database server are on two different machines and I think the communication between the two is the bottleneck when traffic is heavy. I'm wonde...

PICK changed from 1-based to 0-based?
Someone on Stack Overflow pointed to page 27 of the Forth-79 standard, https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/lnmaurer/web/forth/Forth-79.pdf It indicates that PICK is 1-based, e.g. it says "2 PICK is equivalent to OVER". These days, PICK is 0-based, i.e. OVER is equivalent to 1 PICK. I realize PICK is frowned on regardless, but did the Forth world really accept a breaking change like this? Or is the document wrong compared to actual practice at the time? On 12/28/2013 9:39 PM, Paul Rubin wrote: > Someone on Stack Overflow pointed to page 27 of the Forth-79 standard, &g...

Windows based ethreal and Cygwin based network application
Hi, I am using cygwin for development and debugging of a network based application that parses and prints the packets before further processing. Is it not possible to use Windows based Ethereal for my application that is being executed from cygwin ? I tried it, but it did not work. :-( Not sure if there is a problem with my application. Lemme know if that combination of cygwin based application and windows based ethereal would not work. In the meantime, i would be debugging the application. Best computer-based sampler for a Windows-based PC?
What is the best computer-based sampler for a Windows-based computer? I have a PC-based system, and have heard of GigaStudio for the PC, but am not sure whether it's the best available for a PC. My goal is to be able to record the realistic acoustic grand piano possible, and also very realistic strings. Thanks in advance. a database, is a database, is a err database
How many times can we see the same request from someone who wants to access data from a 'pick' database through what has come to be 'standard' practices (odbc, oledb) and still get the same old sloppy ' buy this proprietary utility (and above all, my services)' answer. I think most of these pick flavors should have some sort of layer (by now!) to handle this; If someone needs to do this, the service is really 'education' i.e to show them how. Lets cut the shit now and stop with this tired and silly BS and sad marketing schlock. Providing services for those who perhaps lack the time, skill, or knowledge to perform such tasks is hardly a crime. Maybe "standard" odbc and...

Looking for PICK or PICK-Like database with no charge for unlimited users
Healthpac Computer Systems has been with Pick Systems / Raining Data for 15 years, but we can no longer afford the user licensing fees at large installations. We are currently bidding on a 350-400 user site, to install our Practice Management and Billing suite of applications, and the seat cost is pricing us out of the market. Are their any alternatives? Please respond to rob@healthpac.net or bdc@healthpac.net with any suggested alternatives to Raining Data D3. Please bear in mind we cannot just throw out our legacy applications or stop supporting our existing 150 client sites. So any new database we go to must be very Pick-like. Thanks, Rob Bergman Rob, Take a look at OpenQM, they have a very reasonably priced per seat licensed product the can be very Pick like. They also have an open source version but be very wary of the GPL agreement. Failure to comply could result in the requirement of your applications needing to be open source as well. I don't know how easy it is to convert you applications but you can post queries on the Google group. Check out openqm.com Regards, Dale Rob Bergman wrote: > Healthpac Computer Systems has been with Pick Systems / Raining Data for 15 > years, but we can no longer afford the user licensing fees at large > installations. Pick a PICK
Hi, I last programmed in PICK on an Ultimate mini back in the late 80's and early 90's. I am thinking of brushing up on my PICK skills and am wondering: 1) If you think there is any life left in PICK: are there any sales of PICK-based systems to *new* client companies these days, or is it all legacy support? 2) What PICK vendor offering you personally recommend (support, financial health of vendor) Thanks. #1: I know that there are software vendors with multivalue-based applications who are actively selling their apps to new end users. #2: I'm biased, but I would definitely have to recommend Intersystem's Cach=E9 database. It's an actively developed and enhanced modern product from a healthy company that gives you many more features out of the box than any other vender's offering. Pick on Windows
Is there still a copy of Pick or Unidata available for (free) download for personal use that will run on Windows NT or 2000? I seem to recall a while ago that there was. I really could use it now that I have time to play with the product. My apologies in advance if this topic has been asked, answered and flogged to death before.
