please help: some questions about Wireless (wifi) networks, Linksys products, range extension
Hi all - I know this general issue has probably been discussed to death; I have some specific questions which I'm hoping to get good advice about. I've done a lot of on-line research on this topic and am now bewildered by the possibilities. General background: I have an old Victorian house, with some tin ceilings and god-knows what else in the walls. My office is on the 2nd floor, and this is where the cable (broadband internet) comes into the house. That's where I have a cable modem and a Linksys Wireless router (the kind with four ethernet ports also). Downstairs, right ...

using network boot to install RedHat using Anaconda
Howdy. I'm currently using the ks.cfg (anaconda) configuration to automate redhat installes for various machines, but would like to take this one step further to remove the need for CDROM drives in the machines. Is it possible (and not too hard to setup) to use LTSP or ?? to set a machine to network boot the RedHat CD image? Then all I'd have to do is put in the ks.cfg path and the rest would take care of itself. Thanks. ...

Multiple pages print as separate print jobs
When I set my Minolta Magicolor 2400W to print 20 copies of a page, for example, it treats the job as though I have submitted 20 separate print jobs. In other words, after it prints a page there is a long pause before the next page prints. It wasn't always that way. I don't know if the difference started with my WinXP SP2 upgrade, or if the driver has been updated without my knowledge. Any help on resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ...

More network oddities???
Me again, another site but a similar problem. They have a Kyocera laserprinter shared from a Tiger equipped eMac. The printer sharing is toggled on in the Preference and in fact has been working smoothly for weeks. Suddenly, a nearby networked Panther equipped eMac, attempting to send a print job, is blocked by the error code "Unable to lookup host. 'Tiger-eMac.local' - unknown host." This is when both eMacs have their respective hard disks visible on the other's desktops and are swapping files both directions, and Panther can ping Tiger, no problem! It's no...

What is "uploads on eh.robis.net" in Network Nethood/Neighborhood/Places?
2 computers. WinXP and WinME ("9x") on Netgear home-setup router. ZoneAlarm free. Today I powered both up at approximately same time. Trouble: At first I opened Network Places, but couldn't "see" XP in "network places" from either computer. It looked as if always could access 9x computer from either computer. This lasted for roughly a half hour, while I looked for the problem, (including the usual fast fixes: momentarily pulling power from cable modem and router) ------- Next, I found a weird looking thing in nethood: uploads on eh.robis.net Properties,...

Periodic jobs not running
I'm wondering why my periodic daily, weekly, and monthly jobs don't run automagically under Leopard. If I run them with "sudo periodic daily" or whichever one they seem to run without errors in the *.out logfile in /var/log I shut the machine down at night, but I thought that under Leopard that missed schedules were supposed to be run at the next boot. Under Tiger I used Anacron to run missed scheduled jobs but somehow I got the impression that with cron deprecated under Leopard that the periodic jobs were supposed to be rescheduled by launchd at boot time. No? Any ...
