IP Inspection
The 2611XL is supposed to be able to forward 20k pps. Even with small
packets, that's still over 10 Mbps so I thought it would make a
suitable firewall for a school with about 300 students and a 10Mbps
link to the Internet.
I attempted to configure IP Inspection (for the first time ever) on
this box and internet throughput dropped from 5 Mbps to under 1 Mbps.
Is this to be expected with this router, or is my configuration flawed
(or both)?

I would like to purchase a router which connects to an internet modem

inbound ports are open.
Next, it must be capable of negotiating a VPN connection to A VPN

Good "techie access" to port forwarding and routing tables as well as
firewall rules is required.
Any suggestions on what products to investig

NAT Two External Addresses to One Internal Address
Is it possible to NAT two external addresses to one internal address?
If it is possible, is it good practice to do so?
If it is not good practice to do so, can you point me to documentation
explaining why it is not good practice?
I have a consultant on site helping with a project. We currently have a
static one-to-one NAT translation for our existing server. As part of the
new project testing, the consultant is suggesting that we need another
external IP address mapped to the existing internal server.
If it's not possible or not a good idea, I'll look into alternatives.

Inconsistent Subnet Mask
I am working on a network where the inside interface of the edge
router is addressed as 10.1.1.1/24. Its peer is R2 addressed as
10.1.1.2/30. R2 also has an interface addressed as 10.1.1.5/30 that
goes to R3 (10.1.1.6/30) in another office.
I do not know whether the inconsistent use of the subnet mask was
accidental or intentional. Even if this is completely OK, I need to
understand how this works so I can properly set the mask for other
devices on the 10.1.1.x network.
Please explain how to determine the effects of using inconsistent
subnet masks.

installing a VMWare ESXi connected to a Cisco 6500 at Gigabit?
Hello,
I have been trying to place a VMWare ESXi Server on a portchannel port
connected at Gigabit.
The Server is a IBM eSeries, with 2 Gigabit Ethernet, and is connected to a
Cisco 6500 with a 48 GigabitRthernet Module.
All other configurations I have work fine, and the servers worked on Gigabit
nicely when they had Windows installed on them, so I do think it really is a
ESXi problem
(I tried both in auto-negotiation and forced speeds... works fine at 100Mb,
doesn't go up on Gigabit...)
Has anyone had trouble with installing ESXi and the ports not working on

BGP Load Sharing
Can someone give me a good generic way to load share BGP outbound. I

This is currently being done thought PBR. I have a /21 of internet

This does a good job sharing the outbound load but creates problems
when we have a ISP failure.
On all three connections I am taking a partail table + default.
Thanks.

Authenticate Router Not User
I am trying to find a decent example of the above. In brief I would
like to authenticate a router in ACS, say by a specified MAC address,

Can this be done by setting the router itself as the 802.1X host. Or
is there another way. I appreciate I could use 802.1X for user
authentication but that's not the goal.
Any pointers woul be great.

Ordering WCS
I'm working with a customer that has several WLC in place and working
already. They now want to get a WCS server with location services in

not the number or type of WLCs?
For a linux server, the part number I want is AIR-WCS-LL-1.0-K9, isn't
it? Does that part number include any AP licenses? And the additional
APs are licensed in multiples of 50, 100, and 500, correct?

We have a branch router connected to the head office via two

There are two DMVPN tunnels over IPsec. Eigrp is running for
the routing. The ADSL has been configured with a higher bandwidth
than the SDSL, so the automatic route favours the ADSL based

For VOIP traffic, a few static routes are installed that route
the VOIP traffic over the SDSL based tunnel. This is possible
because the VOIP traffic is in a separate subnet.
This works fine except for one situation: when t

AP does not associate w WLC
Two AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 APs are on different ports of the same 3550
switch. Both ports are configured the same.
One AP is running c1200-k9w8-mx.124-18a.JA1 and associates with the
4402.
The other is running (C1200-K9W7-M), Version 12.2(15)JA, RELEASE
SOFTWARE (fc1) and doesn't.
Could the older software be the cause of this?

Removal of Sysinternals antivirus fake program (virus)
Sysinternals Antivirus Manual Removal instructions
Sysinternals Antivirus is a rogue anti-spyware application that has
been directly related to Your PC Protector. Just like the program it
is related to, it tries to trick users into paying for a software
license. This rogue application gets installed via Trojans that force
their way on to the user system through malicious websites. Once
installed, Sysinternals Antivirus loads itself as a startup service
and proceeds to perform endless scans of the user=92s system, handing
out fake reports which try to convince the user that the comput

Energy Saving Tips
1. Reduce heater's room temperature
For each extra degree (Celsius) of temperature, your heater will
consume 7 to 11%
more energy. Adjust it to 18degrees which is also better for your
health.
2. Install a programmable thermostat
You will be able to control the heater's temperature during specific
hours every day.
3. Insulate your house
Loss of heat is loss of energy.
4. Fix air leaks
5. Close the chimney of the fireplace when you don't use it
It is designed to drive smoke (hot air) out of the house!
6. Get an energy audit to advice you about the necessary fixes and
insulation
7.

Choosing a lab router?
Hi all,
I'm about to start studying for the CCNA Wireless exam (640-721), can
anyone recommend a good Cisco wireless router? I was thinking along the
lines of the 851W?
TIA, Jason

AP mounted on Concrete Pillar
Will mounting an AP on a concrete piller concentrate the radio energy
in the front direction?
This is a 3-Floor school and I suspect I-Beams are inside the pillars.

PIX vs RV042
We are considering replacing an old PIX 501E firewall (unlimited
users) with an RV042 to position ourselves for some future time when
we may decide to install a backup Internet feed. Considering the
firewall aspects only, do these devices provide equivalent protection?
For either of these two products, are there any serious security holes
that should be blocked by additional configuration?

Droid phone connecting to a Cisco VPN...
Has anyone done this without using a rooted phone? I have seen apps
out there that supposedly work with a rooted phone. I am trying to get
my Incredible and my bosses Moto Droid to connect up to our VPN.
I think I have clientless SSL VPN connections working to a point. But
I don't think that is the direction that I want to go in. Any ideas or
thoughts?
Thanks.
Tim
