I have a 871 router and trying to get the console to work.
I tried pluggin in the blue Cisco console port cable into the combined
console port/aux port on the back of the 871, I get garbage characters
in the hyperterimal that I'm using to connect to.
I can plug the same cable using the same setup into a 3825, 1811, 2811
and they all work fine and I can login etc.
I tried the reset button on the back of the 871 but apparently all it
does is if it's pressed within 5 seconds of boot and there is a valid
alternative *.cfg it will use that rather than startup but that didn't
help.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks
John

Try messing with the speed, databits, parity options on
the machine you are connecting with.

I went through tons of combinations etc etc.
Went from 1200 all the way to 115200 and it finally worked !
So 115200 8-N-1 works if anyone gets their Aux - console port on a 800
series to stop working.

9600 8-N-1 is the default so either you or someone else had to have
changed it at some point.
