Finding the Manufacturing Date on switches?

  • Follow

Anyone know how to locate the manufacturing date for the following
switch series?
3750, 3560, 2950? I work at a University and we're trying to inventory
the dates all of the networking equipment was created on so that we
can figure out where we have the oldest switches to start replacing /
upgrading....

Thanks!

Do a "show version" and locate the System Serial Number.

The serial number is in this format: LLLYYWWSSSS

LLL = location of the supplier
YY = year of manufacture
WW = week of manufacture
SSSS = serial-id

Year codes:

01 = 1997
02 = 1998
03 = 1999
04 = 2000
05 = 2001
06 = 2002
07 = 2003
08 = 2004
09 = 2005
10 = 2006
11 = 2007
12 = 2008

All of those switches are pretty new, only the 2950 is currently out of
manufacture (replaced by the 2960 this year). I wouldn't replace any of
them. I would replace 2924XL, 3500XL or 3550's, as these are all
End-of-Life.
