I am suddenly getting an error message on my PC using VPN Client (ver
4.0.3) "Reason 413: User Authentication Failed". I am using the same
Client and profile on my laptop and there it is working fine. I have
tried removing and reloading the Client software on the PC but still
get the same message. I notice that when I try to connect on my PC, I
get prompted for Username and PIN instead of the Username and Passcode
prompt on the laptop.
Obviously removing the software on my PC did not remove everything (I
noticed that my profiles were still there). What file contains info
that would cause it to ask for a PIN instead of Passcode and not allow
me to log in? Any help would be appreciated.
You may wish to investigate the Cisco VPN Client GUI Error Lookup Tool:

Message Number/Value - Select "413"
Reason 413: User authentication failed.
Description or Action:
Either the user entered wrong user authentication information, or the
client was not able to launch the XAuth ( user authentication )
Hope this helps.

Not really, Brad.
I am putting in the same userid and passcode on both machines and one
is working and the other is not, so I don't think it's that and I am
using the same profile file on both machines so I don't think it's the
group authentication section.
That tends to point me to the Xauth portion of the answer but I don't
know how this program kicks off or why it's not.

Reason 413: User authentication failed. I am knocking down the layers to get into my remote VPN easy server and
now have been rejected due to the above message. Which username and
password is it asking for? I can not remember entering one in the Cisco

which I have tried and failed?

SoftMAC authentication failed I've got a bcm43xx based wifi card. It works fine with one AP, but fails
with another AP. Both APs are configured exactly the same, except for the

On one, wep authentication works just fine. On the other, the card fails
to authenticate with:

I can't for the life of me find out what that error means, nor can I find
the source repository for SoftMAC.
Can anyone point me at some docs for SoftMAC? Or maybe explain this error?

sudo with LDAP authenticated users? Greetings... I'm testing sudo on AIX 5.3 and have both local and
remote LDAP authenticated users on the system. I know I can recompile
sudo with the '--with-ldap' option, but I don't want to do that or
store sudo information on the LDAP server yet. I want to keep all sudo
info in the local /etc/sudoers file for now.
For example, I can use the NOPASSWD: option and bypass user
authentication for the LDAP users, and that's okay with me, but do not
know yet if this is our corp standard and want to test both ways.

If I take the exact same file that she tried to upload and upload it

The file is about 100K and takes only about 20 seconds to upload, so
it's not a browser timeout issue. I had her try se...
User Authentication for Event Tracking I am building a site in rails (my first rails project) to track Events.
Each Event will have a list of guests. Like this:
Event has_many :guests
Guest belongs_to :event
I am trying to incorporate User authentication for this. So when a user
logs in, they see the event they have created and can CRUD the list of
guests for that event.
I have gone through the Rails Recipe from Chad Fowler's upcoming book
for Authentication and the following one for Role-based authentication.
However, I am still a little unclear as to how to implement my project
using these Recipes.

Installing solaris with built in kerberos seems to be able to communicate

kerberos authentication failing through load balancer Hi,

When we try to use Kerberos authentication for passwordless ssh, it works
fine if we ssh straight to a host,

I traced this deep into the code. The problem is that the server, during
ssh_gssapi_accept_ctx, calls into GSSAPI,
which in Kerberos compares the princi...
ASA5510 HTTPS User Certificate Authentication Hello,
I have the WebVPN working on ASA5510, but I want to limit access only to
machines that belong to our company. I therefore thought of installing
certificates on our laptops and use the "require https user certificate
authentication" option. Unfortunately, I don't know how to procede with the
client certificate installation. I can't find any documentation on this
matter. Has anyone done it? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Wireless User Authentication using Linux?
Forgive me if this is a FAQ-- I'm sure this subject has come up many
times before-- but a good net search didn't get me any leads.
My network consists of a 802.11b wireless D-Link router connected to the
Internet, and through there between 10-20 wireless (Windows) clients use
DHCP to access the Internet. Everything works fine.
What I'd like to do is have each one of those clients login before gaining
access to the Internet. I have the u/p database on a linux box, which I'm
thinking could act as a proxy between the Internet and the Router. I don't
need high security, just...

user authentication hi ng,
some days ago i asked you how to implement a user authentication. the
answer was that getpwnam(..)->pw_passwd gives me the encrypted password
from /etc/passwd or contains a single 'x' character when shadow
passwords are being used.
after running the program on a (i guess suse) linux box at my university
(where i don't have access to the shadow file, of course - but anyways
;) the pw_passwd field contained a '!' character. now, what does that
mean?! can i expect that shadow passwords are being used whenever
strlen(pw_passwd) == 1? another thing is trying the getpw...
