Multipath Reduction in TV and FM Broadcast Signals

  • Follow

The constant modulus algorithm (CMA) described by Treichler et. al.
appears to be a leading solution to multipath reduction and well suited
for implementation on modest DSP hardware. Are there equally effective
alternatives? Also, I've been unable to find reports of improvement
due to CMA actually observed on TV and FM broadcast signals. Can
anyone point me to such information? Our company is planning a new
product development program that will require multipath mitigation, and
we are looking for DSP design consultants with such background.

Use the search term "adaptive equalizer"

AE's are used in all ATSC demods and most all QAM demods used for
digital cable TV.
There is a lot of information on multipath in ATSC and probably DVBT
in Europe.

There is a "ghost cancelling " system for analog TV but it never gained
wide usage.

There are no receivers that use AE for FM broadcast as far as I know.
