password protection, encrypting

  • Follow

Hi there!

I use: NTEmacs (GNU Emacs 21.3.1) under Windows 2000.

Do you have an idea, if it is possible to encrypt
txt-files and protect the encryption with a
password under emacs?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Frank

Loading package-get...done
Got 101 package-get database entries
Updated package-get database
Mode : either doesn't exist or is not a known package
File mode specification error: (error ":")

Check out crypt++ - I don't know about how to get it working under
NTEmacs, but it works very nicely under Linux. I imagine all you need
to do is find compatible encryption software. I think (from memory)
all it needs is two functions which, given an encryption key, will
encrypt the current buffer.

Under linux, when you open an encrypted file, crypt++ asks for the
encryption key. the file is decrypted and displayed in a buffer. When
you save the file, it uses the same key to encrypt it before writing
to disk.

I've been using it at work for a while to keep sensitive data
encrypted and it works very nicely.
