Hi all,

i'm a total newbie :( . i tryed to open my kmail folder (~/Mail/inbox)
with rmail, but after that kmail could not read it anymore ...
even when i deleted the index files. So luckily there was a backup,
write by rmail ? So rmail and kmail can't share the sam mail folders ?

No. rmail only writes Babyl format, used by no other modern mail
reader. Rmail can read mbox, the most common single-file mail folder
format, but when you save your folder, it will be Babyl format. 'b2m'
is a program shipped with emacs that converts from Babyl to mbox, and
from within emacs, use the command 'M-x unrmail'.

Kmail can use current mail folder formats mbox and maildir. So you
can't easily use both readers.

I wonder how long the following has been in the info node 'Rmail Inbox' ?

Rmail was written to use Babyl format as its internal format. Since
then, we have recognized that the usual inbox format on Unix and GNU
systems is adequate for the job, and we plan to change Rmail to use that
as its internal format.

It would be great if this would happen, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It is happening in CVS Emacs (on a branch, not in HEAD).
