I have a couple of favorites... It's kind of like picking your favorite
arcade games out of MAME - you need to have a Top 20 or 30 to cover them all
out of over 4000. :-P

I find that most of these games have the timeless appeal that transcends all
advances in graphic technology and CPU speed. In no particular order:

- Lode Runner
- Wings of Fury
- Big Mac the Maintenance Man
- H.E.R.O.
- Montezuma's Revenge
- Satan's Hollow
- Space Taxi
- Super Pipeline 1 & 2
- Battle Through Time
- Zenji
- Beach-Head
- Duck Tales: The Quest for Gold
- Master of the Lamps
- Arkanoid II
- Boulder Dash, yeah I suppose :-)
- F-14 Tomcat was great for atmosphere, an obvious tribute to "Top Gun"
- Ghostbusters!
- Crackdown
- Black Gold (oil market simulation; can't find an English-language image
anywhere)
- Overlord (can't find an image anywhere)
- Raid Over Moscow
- Spelunker

There are a couple of longer games which I haven't had the time to soak into,
but which have plenty of fans:
- Pirates!
- Project Firestart
- Defender of the Crown
- Rocket Ranger
- Airborne Ranger

That was (and still is) one of my favorites actually, along with Jumpman,
Impossible Mission, Racing Destruction Set, Pitstop II Racing, Blue Max,
and of course Archon and M.U.L.E.

Speaking of Fort, what's the highest rating anybody has ever achieved? I
think Eagle Class 1 was my best back in the day, but I only played on
beginner. Are their any ratings higher than Eagle?

The original author talked about a much larger cave or else more levels
when he wrote it, but it had to be cut down. I have considered doing a
new version for at least 15 years and have never had the time.

Are you being facetious? :-)

If not :-/, just do a Google search for C64 downloads.

Can someone find me the ROM in .t64 format?

Also, how do I open the bay doors in Raid over Moscow?

I like very much a very simple, brick arcade game... No, I don't mean
Arkanoid here... I mean TRAZ. It was so funny (e.g. spinning balls,
and the SFX).

Also I like the original Tetris - Ahhh, that soundtrack...

And, we can't forgot the "C 64 Doom/Quake" - the Total Eclipse! game.

Cameron,
Everybody knows that the doors wont open unless you board the
helicopter, destroy each plane and jump into the space suite. Failing
to do this procedure leads you to use the space bar at the very
beginning, losing hte chance to take the fort :-)

Don't worry - that's what virtually *everything* that Rick "Wildstar"
Balkins has been flooding the newsgroups with shares. But, well, with
so many projects he's been involved in, the whole time-consuming
correspondence with his close buddies at Tulip's and so on, it's
absolutely no wonder he tries to keep a low profile - he just doesn't
have the time to answer those tons of emails written by people who
believe in him ;-))) .

In other words: This project is as real as Mr. Balkins' OS project,
his 3D GUI, his being taken seriously by anybody in the business, or,
well, his computer knowledge in general. Sorry if you had already
imagined yourself playing a game like this on your C64 (or emulator),
but that's the way it is.

However, you may search google for Cameron Kaiser's "Nether" (if
that's what it was called - haven't checked it out in a long time), or
"Mood", which sadly has never been finished, but at least demonstrated
that some kind of "poor man's ray-casting engine" was indeed possible.
Both are not exactly what you may think of if you talk Doom, but sure
enough show you what you (probably) haven't seen on this machine yet.

Greetings,
                    Chris.

Yup. However, there is some activity under the surface on this (I'll
just say that Nether G2 is not a forgotten project). More as events
warrant. :)

I'm hoping to have a non-interactive trailer ready for VCF 7. No, it's
not Nether, but there's a lot of Nether G2 code in it.

Yup, buddies, but if Ya know, where Bruce can find the Total Eclipse -
give him a link. I got it now only on a tape.

Google shows nothing? I'll try to find it online today, but can't
promise I find it. I got in on a tape. Well, another fact is, that
Christian wrote - the game is not very interesting... The *very* slow,
"froggy" graphic scrolling, and generally poor graphic... But it's the
first game of that type, that ever I seen, that's all. It's very
usable to play it on emulator, with CPU speed set to 200% or more.

Well my search was http://www.google.com/search?q=c64+quake and the closest
match was
http://www.talkaboutgaming.com/group/alt.games.quake/messages/109107.html
which was a hoax. :(

BTW, "Total Eclipse" is not Doom/Quake for the C64.

Huh. Right. I know, just I used bad words. :-/ Look, I first played
Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake, and then seen the Total Eclipse first
time. The connotation was obvious for me. :-)

You have to leave ground (by pressing firebutton) before you can open them.
When you're ready to go, press F7/F8 to open doors.
If you don't get out in time, they're gonna close again.
