Collegiate Font?

I'm looking for a font that looks collegiate, like it belongs on a
letter sweater. I'm aware of AGFA's Yearbook font, but I'd like a font
that is a little bolder, Yearbook is a little thin.

Any suggestions? Commercial or share/freeware, either is fine. Thanks
in advance!

I'd say 'Princetown' would fit your requirements. See
<http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/letraset/princetown/familytree.html>
for more information on where to get and how much...

There is a very similar design available called... 'Letter Sweater' (!)
from an outfit unknown to me <http://www.microgetics.com/mcles___-p.htm>

For a more "European" feel, look for 'Superstar':
<http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/letraset/superstar/familytree.html>

And finally, you could do a MyFonts search on i.e. 'College':
<http://www.myfonts.com/search?search[text]=college>

Hope you find what you're looking for!

Oh, and take a look at Mickey Rossi's "recreations of fonts that
couldn't be found in digital format". Especially 'Athletic Supporter',
'College Boy' and maybe 'Jim Thorpe (High)' or even 'Ballpark Weiner'.

Here's an incomplete list; some are commercial, some free (I forget which)
Some, such as Cosmi's RAH RAH, aren't readily found. Others, such as
"Jersey Letters" are easily googled for:

That free one by Perry Mason is at:

GREAT thanks for all the suggestions. I'd never seen that dafont site.
It led me to just the fonts I was looking for: Freshman. Unfortunately
it's system 10 only (is there a utility that will convert it for use
with System 9?).

Sure. Assuming you know how to pry open the ZIP file and have found the
..ttf file inside (it's a Windows file, which can also be used under OS
X), you can use TTConverter to convert it to Mac TrueType format.

Get it here: <http://www.signaturefactory.com/TTConverter.htm>

Or Google for 'TTConverter'.

Forgot the first rule of USENET requests: Google first, ask for help
second.

So to answer my own question, yes, there is a font conversion utility,
it can be found at: http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/dfont/dfont.html

I haven't used it, so I don't know how well or if it works.

Nah, that's for OS X as well (it converts OS X specific .dfont format
fonts into 'normal' Mac TrueType fonts, usable under X as well as 9).

If you're on OS 9, and you want to use a font with a .ttf extension
(i.e. a Windows TrueType font) go with TTConverter.

If you're on OS X, and you want to use a font with a .ttf extension
(i.e. a Windows TrueType font) no conversion is necessary.

Happens I tripped over one the other day, which is named the obvious
-- "Collegiate Normal" (rather nice-looking too)

http://www.webfxmall.com/fonts/zip/college.zip

There is no copyright or other info in the zip or the TTF itself, so
one presumes it's freeware.

Thanks for your help. TTconvertor worked on the font I want to use
(College). As I want to use it on 2 systems (OS 9 & OS X) I needed the
utility.
