What exactly will cross fonts allow me to do in my PC. Will it make
the fonts I have look as crisp and as clear as the ones in my MAC. Or
is this a hardware issues and, if it is a hardware issue, can I solve
it anyway? Can I smouth out my fonts in my Thinkpad somehow? I hatethe
way everything looks slightly broken, the fonts that is.

Crossfont won't improve your fonts, just convert them to/from Mac and
PC formats. The font data remains the same. Your problem sounds like
more to do with video drivers. MS was touting "Cleartype" for making
fonts look better on LCD screens -- worth a try if you haven't already
got it.
