Film credit font standards?

Hi everyone,

Are there any standard guidelines to what fonts should and should not
be used in a film's closing credits? I've been told to stay away from
serifs, but other than that, what else should I be looking out for?

Use whatever you like. Serifs are fine, though if you're going to
hundreds of lines you'll probably need to use a smaller size, and sans
are generally more legible then. Try to make sure that they're legible
when displayed on a TV screen, a lot of movies have illegible credits
when you see them on video.
Also I've seen a lot of credits use typewriter (straight) quotes
instead of typographic (curly or smart) ones, try to get that right.

As most layout questions, look at the current practice and use these
as a starting point.
