suggestion for font ... eurostile & ???

  • Follow

Hello Experts,

do you have any suggestions for a text font that goes
well with fonts like Eurostile extended or Microgramma?

It mustn't be suited for lengthy texts, just for business
letters would be fine. Therefore it shouldn't be too light
in weight, letter forms should be clear and open so that
the font withstands photocopying and faxing and there
should be a nice bold weight clearly distinguishable from
the regular weight.

Generally speaking I'm looking for something fresh and clear,
slightly geometric, but not too technical but somehow I don't
really find a satisfying solution, but perhaps someone here
has an idea.

TIA,

Marc

Marc,

Any kind of sans is going to look terrible in that situation. I suggest
you look at Melior. It's a serif face by Zapf that I generally think of
as his least attractive release. However, it has a squarish letterform
that nicely complements the display faces you are using.

aaaah ... Melior ... right you are

That's just a matter of taste. ;-)
I remember, that I instantly liked it when I first saw it years
ago, but as I hadn't much use for it ever since I forgot about it.
But why not give it a revival these days?

In fact I'm going to use the more stylish "Sheffield" from the
Typonauten, but it has the same general letter shape.

So indeed the fonts should fit nicely together. I'll give it
a try and then see how the client likes it ... but I feel like
this combination will have a certain charme.

Thanks,

Marc

Absolutely. Didn't mean to suggest otherwise. De gustibus non
disputandum est 'n all that.

And I just as instantly disliked it. In my case it was 1966 and I
remember the circumstance well. But times and tastes change, I guess ;-)

Good luck with your client.

It seems like the tastes were quite persistent for you and me so far.
Chances are however, that one day you get to like Melior.
Then again: There is no bad type anyway, just circumstances and situations
where it either fits well or not.

:-)
