Can anybody tell me the name of the font used for most dialog text on
Mac OS? Is there any standard dialog font for Linux operating systems?
I already know that Windows uses MS Sans Serif and Tahoma. II only
need names; this is for a web page.

Chicago was the default font prior to system 8.
In System 8 and 9, you could choose between Chicago, Charcoal, and a few
others.
In OSX, Lucida Grande is the default font.

Mac OS X : Lucida Grande.
Linux : There is no standard per se, but most common in my experience
have been Helvetica and Luxi Sans (sometimes also called Lucidux Sans).
I have also seen Bitstream Vera Sans used for the purpose.
Sun OpenWindows (for the Solaris OS) used to use Lucida Sans, as
did CDE. Not sure what they're using these days (may still be using
Lucida).
