Building GIMP from source
Got it built from source, but I have a few questions. Are there users on
this group who build from source?

You might try asking your questions; if someone can answer them they will.

Nearly all the time. I was on a Mandrake 10.0 system and I got annoyed
that I was still stuck with gimp-1.2.5, so I grabbed the source and
compiled it myself.

Right. I've got it up and running on this old RH9 machine. Had to put
things in /usr/local and leave old files alone. The problem that I'm
having is that the help files are not compiled / installed. When I get a
bit of time (I'm fiddling with something else right now) I'll do an install
and redirect the output to a file where I can search for a message about
help. If that does not work, I'll come back and ask if anyone has a
solution. I don't have enough info yet to post the question ;o)
I really like gimp-2.2.3. I had to install about 30-35 libraries to upgrade
this machine so that gimp would fly. It's sorta RH-9.5...

The help files are under development for the next stable release and are
installed separately. Go here to download the latest version and install
the usual './configure, make, su, make install' way.
ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/help/testing
2-0.7 is the latest version.
