Docking windows... in Windows

I'm using the Windows version in Windows 7. There's an option in each
window to "Lock tab to dock", but I don't see anything occurring. They
just sit there and float like they were before.

What behavior should be occurring, and what if anything am I doing
wrong?

Also, has anyone used a recent version of Visual Studio? I like how
you can drag a window to one of the edges of the screen or leave it
floating. The user interface for dragging the windows is also real
easy to use and makes everything real obvious and clear to the user.

Unable to minimize windows-app window
Hi, Firstly I'm sorry if I've posted an query with an unintelligent subject line, however I am having a problem running Forte Inc's Agent newsreader program. When I click on the minimize control the application minimizes then after half a second or so comes back to it's original size/location. This is happening on a fairly vanilla installation of SuSE Linux 9.3 with wine 20050211. The problem occurs with both ver 2.0 and 3.0 of the Agent newsreader. I did see an error message in the shell that I used to run the application (i.e. wine .wine/drive_c/Program Files/Agen...

Object Graphics Windows in X Windows
Folks, I presume I'm the last to hear about this, but I learned about an X server that runs on Windows the other day, named Xming: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming It is very nice, and it's free. :-) After installing it on my Windows machine, I can log into my LINUX box at work from home and see my calendar, e-mail, EMACS, and even the IDL Workbench! Wow. Who knew!? It works great, except that the darn thing cannot display any kind of object graphics window. This is a HUGE disappointment, naturally, as I can't use my iTools. ;-) Is this an IDL problem, do you think, ...

Graphics window erases windows behind.
Hello: I have a simple MATLAB script which I have compiled into a stand-alone utility using the MATLAB compiler. The script produces a contour plot which the user needs to see because he/she needs to enter some additional input based on that graph. After the graph is created, I have an "input" function which makes the main screen active while it waits for the input. The problem is that the graph is now behind the main window and, if I try to move that window out, it erases the area it swipes over including the graph the user needs to see. This is strictly a compiler problem...

Windows NT vs Windows 2000 vs Windows XP
Hi, I am pretty ignorant when it comes to computers. I posted in another thread that I just purchased a used computer for close to nothing. I have an old windows NT workstation which I plan on installing. My question is : A friend of mine can sell me a Windows 2000 or Windows XP license for cheap. Is there any reason I need to spend $40 to buy any one of these two operating systems for an old Pentium II computer, instead of a free windows NT workstation system that I already have ? For general home use : access internet, typing documents, etc, is there any difference in us...

CrossOver Lets Windows Apps Run o OS X, sans Windows
Peter Cohen - MacCentral CodeWeavers has announced plans to release CrossOver Mac this summer. The $60 software will allow Intel Mac users to run Windows applications -- including some games -- without having to buy or install Windows itself. Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop both provide this capability for Intel Mac owners already -- Boot Camp, software from Apple currently available in beta form, makes users reboot their Macs and run Windows. Parallels Desktop is a "virtualization" utility that enables the Windows operating system and Windows applications to run in Mac OS X, within another window (or, alternately, in full screen mode). CrossOver Mac will take this one step further -- it eschews what CodeWeavers Chief Operating Officer Jon Parshall calls the "box within a box approach." "What you see running is an application sitting in your Dock or your Applications folder," Parshall told Macworld. Both Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop work because the new Macs utilize the same microprocessor that's found in Windows-compatible computer, and CrossOver Mac employs the same basic principle. This wasn't possible before January, when Macs depended solely on PowerPC-based microprocessors made by IBM and Freescale. The presence of an Intel processor inside the Mac forges a close enough resemblance to get Windows and Windows applications to work. Although Boot Camp is free and Parallels Desktop is reasonably pri...

Curious crash when destroying a docked window with a windows system menu in tk8.5
Hey Folks, I've been fighting w/ this bug for awhile trying to find why this crashes in windows 8.5, but not 8.4. The following in tk8.5.8 will result in a crash and a restart of wish: toplevel .w menu .m ..w configure -menu .m menu .m.system ..m.system add command -label "sys test" ..m add cascade -label System -menu .m.system wm forget .w destroy .w Now if i do the same in 8.4, replacing "wm forget .w" with "wm toplevel .w 0" and then destroy .w, it works fine. In 8.5, the crash is caused by a call to TkWinGetWrapperWindow() when it tries to dereference wmInfoPtr which is null: return (winPtr->wmInfoPtr->wrapper); Here are a couple more parts i've observed but i haven't fully tied them together in my head so sorry if they aren't fully coherent and more of just hints: 8.4 and 8.5 on "destroy .w" make it to tkWindow.c: TkDestroyWindow() in a similar fashion, but they diverge on while (winPtr->childList != NULL) { because 8.4 is NULL In the 8.5 equivalent of WmToplevelCmd(), WmForgetCmd(), i noticed that TkFrameReleaseMenu no long exists for 8.5, and it seemed to do quite alot in 8.4 so i'm wondering if 8.5 is missing something from that. Anyways, this crash is starting to exhaust me so I figured i'd get some more eyes on it. Any suggestions or comments about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Skyler On Thursday, April 5, 2012 2:09:07 AM UTC+2, Skyler arabak wrote: > Hey Folks, &...

MFC-app starting WINDOWS screen-saver window z-order/focus problem
Hi! I wrote an MFC-app using VC++.NET 2003, which starts a screensaver using CreateProcess(). It also terminates the screensaver using TerminateProcess() / CloseHandle(). If the user activates mouse/keyboard before my app terminates the screensaver-process, the screensaver terminates itself and the z-order and focus-handling of open windows somehow gets mixed up. this just happens when I use CreateProcess(), when I use PostMessage(WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_SCREENSAVE, 0) for the standrad-screen-saver, everything works fine, but I dont want to use this approach. maybe the system uses different CreateProcess()-params ??? I am using the follwing CreateProcess() call: ::CreateProcess(NULL, cmdLine, NULL, NULL, TRUE, NORMAL_PRIORITY_CLASS, NULL, NULL, &m_si, &m_pi); any idea/help on how to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated, thanx in advance! regards, Hans ...
