gimp 2.4 on live-CD ?

  • Follow

+ I keep seeing problems with installing gimp 2.4, usually
involving older libraries /or/ lack of new ones...
...one answer to problems of this kind has always been
a Live CD !

Now the question is... has anyone made a module/package
available for existing live-CDs, or, which of these will be first
to include gimp-2.4 on the CD itself ?

This may be a little early, with the official release
less than a week ago, but Im optimistic :-)

Fedora 8(still a development release for another week or so) has 2.4,so
does Ubuntu 7.10(Kubuntu doesn't).I think they're RC-3 versions.Mandriva
2008 has 2.4 also.Lots of new releases lately.

The trouble with Man.2008 is that when I try Rawstudio all the pics are
black including the one selected, Suse, Debian and Ubuntu all display
normally.

hmmm, Neil... I had trouble with mandriva2008 also... very nice
interface,
but, it took about 20 minutes on the clock for it to load, and then I
couldnt
get Gimp to pop up. I'll try ubuntu/kubuntu_ the live one_ next :-)

It is a little quicker but I don't like the way it uses the users
password for root so that you need to set up a second user for normal
work.

Fedora has another six days before Fedora 8 is out of beta and
released. The default security on Fedora is much better than Ubuntu out of
the box. This Fedora 7 install I've been using on the laptop has been rock
solid stable too.I have Ubuntu on a desktop too(and PCLinux and
Mepis).Ubuntu's root permission thing has been a sore spot for a lot of
people.

Yea... as nice as ubuntu is, little oversights like the root problem
can
make a new program unpopular very fast. Oh... by the way...
gimp-2.4 works very well there - thanks for suggesting it.
