Is the following possible in gimp:

Creating a gradient with one solid color and a second color that is
50% transparent so that part of the layer underneath is revealed?

Please tell me how it would be done.

Hello,

I tried it out and it seems to work !

1.) Start with a white background ("layer 1")
2.) Draw a red rectangle on "layer 2" on the right half.
3.) Draw an overlapping green rectangle on "layer 3" with 50%
transparency (you can see the red rectangle through it)
in the middle of the canvas.
4.) Choose a gradient from FG to transparent
5.) Choose blue a new FG color
6.) Draw a gradient vector through the green rectangle
from left to right.

You will see a rectangle fading from opact blue (left side)
to transparent green (right side), and you can still see
the other red rectangle through the transparent green.

Is that what you were looking for ?

Kind regards

If you open up the Gradient Selection Dialog, the second button on the
left allows you to create new gradients in the Gradient Editor.

Each gradient in the Gradient Editor consists of segments, each with a
left endpoint, a right endpoint (both black triangles) and a midpoint
(White triangle). The default gradient has only one segment. If you
right click on the gradient, it gives you options of setting the Left
and Right Endpoint Colours, including the degree of alpha
(transparency).

Once you've created your new gradient, give it a name and press the save
button (bottom left) in the Gradient Editor.

Hope that helps?
