conversion of scattered data to grid data

  • Follow

Readers,

The manual states that the function 'dgrid3d' is a low pass
(presumably this means basic?) filter to convert scattered data to
grid data. A few curious questions.

I understand scattered data could mean a set of data recorded over
time, of various randomly arranged values:

time(s) data1 data2
1 100 15
2 120 16
3 90 22
4 300 32
5 500 9

When the manual states 'grid data' what does this mean? What would the
above example data look like after conversion from scattered to grid
data form?

When the algorithm is applied to the raw data, is it possible to see
an export of the data processed by the dgrid3d, as a plain text file?

The manual states there are 'sophisticated' ways to preprocess the
data outside gnuplot. Would someone please suggest examples of other
tools to do this preprocessing of data?
